I have a 2011 R56 Cooper S. From what I can tell, every version of a mini has a different set-up under the engine as far as shields, covers, belly pans, etc. Can someone with a 2011 R56 Mini Cooper S (Hatchback) confirm what my car should have under the engine bay, if anything? Right now, my car has absolutely nothing under the engine/sub-frame area, but I do see various mounting points for something. Please help and post some pics if available.
Below is the standard R56 looks like under the engine:
The OEM "splash shield" is that small triangle shaped piece next to the oil pan, on the left side of the picture. The GP2 shield will cover the whole area from the bumper back to the middle of the subframe cross member, just in front of the cat.
Serious question, won't this increase engine and turbo temps?
It will actually increase airflow through the radiator and engine bay, and help with aerodynamics under the car. Due to the benefits seen from having an undergrad, I believe Mini decided not to include n under tray in the US due to cost cutting. All 3rd gen models have one…
That front tab actually goes under the bumper lip, so it can hold up the front edge while you secure the two rear clips. When I pull mine off, I'll slide it back in under the bumper lip, secure the two rear fasteners, then go around and get the rest.
Shocking! BMW offers all the innovative tech and over-engineering on $30k car, but can’t include with car stock from factory a simple plastic undertray for protection from road debris. FUBMW!
We see the same thing with other makes here under 30K. The VW ones are fabric and are very little protection. Most are junk on the VAG side. You have to get a Porsche or high end Audi to get them. Not just plastic, but Actual aero plastic. We had a Porsche 911 RS in the shop for scan next to my MINI and the panels on my MINI are better then what's on the Audi R8 which was also here for coilovers. Their panels were not ridged all the way and did not have the kevlar reinforcement like the front pan. Side by side the MINI won on both accounts. Our Engineers were impressed by the GP2 diffuser design and the front GP2 pan. The one engineer even has a older 911.
I’ve owned 9 cars, all manual trans btw, all non-BMW. All of them had some kind of undertray. I’ve never thought to go looking for one, lol. This is my 1st BMW and I’m regretting it after only 4 weeks. Lol.
If you do order the belly pan, don't forget to get the clips also. They aren't installed from the factory. Really annoying when your ready to install and there's nothing for the speed screws to grab on to.
Yes, I had ordered #51757330566KT through ECSTuning which is the JCW GP2 Belly Pan Kit. It is supposed to come with hardware and clips for installing but they were missing. Be sure you get them. Install is pretty easy as long as you have enough room under the Mini. I tried to use ramps but I'm to large to slide under with those, so I had to jack up the front end. Popping the clips into the holes was a little tricky but you'll get it.
