Help!!! r56 rebuild

hello i’m new to the page i’m sure there’s a thread talking about this but i feel like my situation is different. i have a 2008 mini s r56. with roughly 128k on it and my timing chain guid broke with caused it to skip timing and bent a valve. i took everything apart on top of the motor got the head off tore down the head rebuilt it new valves and such. but now i’m at the point of reassembling the motor can any one tell me how to get the bottom end of the motor to top dead center so i can re align everything back together. i have the tool but i’m unaware of the stroke as in going up the cylinder head or going down. also do we any one know the cam cap torque specs thank you in advance!!

If you have the flywheel pin, slowly spin the crank until you feel it engage. Then, all set!

There is only one hole in the flywheel. The factory procedure verifies by noting the location of the camshafts. You "could" use something smaller than the locking pin to locate the flywheel hole, then use the locking pin to secure it.

This is the back of the OEM flywheel. The locking pin hole is at the 2 o'clock spot:

The other three dimples are balance holes, and will not line up with the flywheel pin.

Cam cap torque specs are 10Nm --- from TIS spec sheet.

Engine teardown is relatively easy compared to putting it back together. If you don't have access to all the torque specs, what are you using for an assembly procedure? There are a few critical steps that aren't part of most engine rebuilds, and if not followed, can undo all your efforts. NewTIS and Bentley are the most popular, using youtube is a huge gamble and not worth the risk --- maybe for guidance, but not specifics.

Buy one of those little £5 LED extendable mirrors from one of the online marketplaces, lay under the car with your feet towards the boot, with one hand on a ratchet on the crankshaft bolt, move the mirror to an angle you can see down the hole, rotate bolt until you see the hole come into view, it will be obvious as it's quite small, about the diameter of a drinking straw, line it up as best you can and then insert the tool, you may have to rock the bolt back and forwards very slightly to get the pin in properly. You will know when its in properly as you will not be able to move the crank bolt either left or right. All four cylinders should be level in the bores with each other. You can feel when they are right because there is like a dead zone on the ratchet where there is no feel of pressure on any of the components, a bit like you have reached a spot where you are going over centre.
