I'm working on a setup using an iPhone SE on a CS mount. I have OBD Fusion installed on the phone and will be using the same OBD module that I use for bimmercode app. I will be using this on an F56 so I'm not 100% sure it would work the same on the R56.

Amazon Amazon

These are the two displays I have set up so far. Just waiting for the power cord to arrive so I can have my independent Mini Tech hard wire it for me.

Suggestion: find an old Android phone on eBay, get an OBD2-Bluetooth adapter and the Torque app.

DashCommand is the best app out there by far. It has the most complete set of features and also has comprehensive data logging. I use a GoPoint BT1 module but many cheaper BT modules work.

I have a few OBDii units. The best one I bought is the Vgate Icar II, but that is needed for Bimmercode app which is a third gen app.

Also this one
Amazon Amazon
which will work on Android or IOS. That way if you switch phones you are still good to go.

+1, this is exactly what I did and I've only had iphones since the 3gs. Every once in a while some iteration of the Verizon Moto E's will go for fire sale pricing. With a little effort you can get them to act like an unlocked phone so it'll work with your current sim if you'd like to play around with an android.

Hey Bnoural, is that an iPad mini and if so, what type of bracket set up are you using? That looks very nice. Do you even look at the speedo any more?

I’m running Dash Command on an iPhone 8 w/PLX Kiwi 3 Bluetooth set up and a Mini Mania smart phone holder that bolts up to the back of the tach.

Only issue I have is Dash Command sucks the life out of my battery when using it and the power from the normal USB plug in the mini, is not enough to keep up.

Perhaps also worth a look — There are some Android-based dashcam/DVR dashboard gadgets that I’ve been thinking might make a good OBD-2 display with Torque. There seem to be two or three variants (and dozens of sellers and “brands”) available on eBay, running various versions of Android:

Any Wi-Fi adapter will work with the apps on any phone.

any bluetooth adapter will work on Android

on iPhone you have to make sure the Bluetooth adapter is Apple certified and works with an app. Usually they only work with the one app they are made for.

Thanks for the response, i have a bosch unit i that i use to quick scan. but i could not get it to connect with any of the free apps. so rather than pay for the app and it not work i just oredered a cheap elm327 on fleabay to see if my son is going to like it it says it is compatible with torque and dash command. i guess we shall see
