Check Engine Light and Tire Pressure monitoring

Hey guys!

Need some assistance here. I already did a search but still need more help.

Vehicle is a 11/02 production date Cooper S. Customer has a CEL and TPM light. We had a bunch of CAN bus faults in the DSC control unit along with a steering angle sensor fault.

We installed, recode, calibrate two steering angle sensors with different part numbers but some faults keep on returning. I have no fault codes for MAP or wheel speed sensors.

Fault codes are:
5E1E - steering angle sensor CAN

5E16 - CAN Connection to instrument cluster

5E1F - Vehicle identification number different.

Any thoughts? I am starting to suspect a faulty DSC control unit or wiring.

TIA.

I have heard of it

and the local dealer, under warranty, replaces the stg angle sensor and all 4 wheel sensors att he same time-unclear on what this did except the parts were all from a current production batch. the dealer would not confirm or deny a software discrepancy between different generations of sensors, but that is what cured it.

OK an update on this issue: We had to disconnect the DME while programming/coding the new steering angle sensor. It was causing some sort of interruption. reconnect the DME after coding the sensor and everything is fine.
