S and non S heads interchange?
Hi All,
Just joined this forum.
My daughter bought a 2007 Mini hatchback non S (125k miles) a few months ago and we have been having some engine related problems. Too many problems really for one post, so I will stay with two basic, related questions.
1. Are the bare heads the same for N12, N14, S, and non S?
2. Can I take a completely bare S head, swap all of the non S parts, and install it on my non S engine?
I know the intake valve timing set-up is different, along with a lot of externals. OEM parts numbers for the heads are different, but they come with valves intact so I would expect the different part numbers based on that.
I need a replacement head and the S heads seem to be easier to come by. If the base castings are the same I can change all the parts over. I have already taken the head off, completely disassembled (including crazy spring set up on intake), and put it all back together. Car runs great, but the cam journals were very badly worn and it is still having problems that seem to point to low oil pressure. I am guessing the worn cam journals are the problem.
Thanks
