Flywheel interchange

Hi, does anyone know if the flywheel from an S is compatible with a non-S engine? (I have an 03 R50). Thanks.

No (unless you swapped your 5-speed Midlands to the MCS 6-speed Getrag transmission).

Actually, I'm considering swapping my CVT for a 5-speed! My concern is the crankshaft mounting. If the end of the crank is universal for all flywheels/drive plates, then my options open up.

Well, someguy, two reasons: a) I didn't know they have a rep for, well, sucking, and 2) there was one available on Craigslist with pressure plate and disc very cheaply. I was considering converting to manual trans, and trying to piece everything together real cheap-like. Thanks!

Hey, it is alright, I hope I didnt come across as being too rude, that wasnt my intent. The idea of doing a manual transmission conversion sounds cool. If the engine is in the same location as it is in the manual version it should be doable.

CVT to manual is one heck of an undertaking. You'll need to add a pedal, change the shifter in the car, add a manual's master cylinder so you can add a clutch slave cylinder, change the engine harness, change the ECU and get the ECU reprogrammed by a sympathetic dealer.

Not to dissuade from this project but if you are paying the labor all this too then it's much more cost effective to sell the CVT MINI and buy one with a manual.

Someguy, no offense taken! I appreciate the counsel. I realize the enormity of the task- the challenge is half the fun- and other than the computer reprogramming, I do all the labor myself. Did this job on a MKIII Golf a few years ago. Plus, the price of even a used CVT is as much as I paid for the car!
The key was that the cranks were universal- is that true for the Mini?

AFAIK all of the different versions of the cooper use the same crank shaft.
