Engine component interchange??

Are the lower end engine components of the supercharged and non-s/c engines interchangeable??
I have a 2003 MCS with a possible lower end problem and I may be able to pick up a non-S motor very reasonable for parts if I can use them. If not, which way should I proceed, a take out, a reman unit or just rebuild the engine currently in the car?
If I rebuild the existing engine what mod's should I make at that time??

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Tom in PA

No...

The crank is different, the con rods are different, and the pistons are different. There are no oil squirters in the Cooper short-block either.

Anyway, rebuild is the way to go. Others can help here, I don't have direct experience with it. Also, you could stroke the motor. Contact Jan at Revolution Mini Works (see the vendor directory) to see if your engine is a good candidate.
