2007 v 2009

Hi,

I'm currently in the process of buying a mini but deciding between a 2007 or 2009 one. The 2007 is obviously selling at a cheaper price and I was wondering are there any difference between the year models?

Thanks!

If you are looking at buying an S model - I'd say fast-forward to a 2011. Too many issues with the N14 engine. If it's a justa that you have in mind...either year model (2007 or 2009) should be fine.

Thanks for the response. Not looking to buy the S model at the moment. With the 2009, does it have any features that the 2007 doesn't have?

I would recommend using the free VIN Decoder: https://www.bmwvin.com/ It should give the car's options. There are no major design changes between the 2007 and 2009 that I know of.

No major mechanical changes between a base Cooper 2007 and 2009. Let the car condition and options sway your decision. Watch out for any leaks (oil or antifreeze), they get expensive quick to fix.

Have fun,
Mike

2007 was the first year of the new engine. There were a lot of problems -- I know, I have a 2007. I would go with the later model with the thought that some of the issues were engineered out.

Did the base verts still get the new motor? I know the cooper S 2007 and 2008 still have the supercharged motor, coupes went to turbo.

For others who happen upon this thread in search of a supercharged S/JCW CONVERTIBLE you're best off with a 2007-2008, or jumping to a turbo-based 2011+ (if memory serves).

The 2nd Gen Convertible (R57) wasn't introduced until the 2009 model year.

2007 and 2008 Convertibles (R52) had the same engine as 2005 and 2006 models.

I'd agree with your statement.
