Vendors: I need rubber boot from manual trans shift cables

Hey guys. Real OEM parts doesn't show these rubber protective boots for sale as separate items.

Can you get them or do I really have to purchase an entirely new shift cable?

I'm talking about the rubber protective boot similar to the ones on the FW drive axles. But instead for the 2 manual trans shift cables directly mounted to the top of the trans.

I have a '09 manual where the boots have ripped. Sure enough I checked my '11 JCW - same thing. The intense heat must get to these things.

The black rubber boot similar to what is in the pic below.

Sorry you have to get the whole cable as they don't sell the boot by itself

Thanks. I figured as much since it's not broken out on the parts diagrams. Doesn't hurt to ask.
I wonder if they make some type of aftermarket boot that buttons or zips on one side

I believe they do!

I asked about those boots too after my clutch job a few years ago and was also told they are not sold desperately. I'm sure some manufacturer makes them. It's a matter of finding out who.

Sikamini,

I just replaced my clutch and I noticed the shift ****/stick is not centered any longer (inside the car)when in neutral. I moved the cables from under the hood during removal and now its not in the normal position. Hmm. Not sure how to get it back into the normal position.

Any thoughts?

You probably manually moved the shift mechanism. I took a photo of mine before starting. I moved mine too and just moved the ones on the transmission back into position. I'd post a picture, but I've had a computer disaster and my main computer is not accessible. Try just moving them either by hand of with the shifter.

Is the car driveable? Is it going through gears normally? Somehow you'll need to place the two levers in the neutral position.

It's still up on 4 jack stands. Also, all the fluid is drained now in slave cylinder so first thing is to refill and bleed. The clutch pedal is useless now. I'll start there and see what happens after. Thanks.

Yes. Take it a step at a time. You haven't messed anything up. It's all fixable.

Here are some clues to position. Can't get better shot without disassembly.

You won't need the clutch to move the lever on the transmission.
