R56 Seafoam for gdi motors
Seafoam for gdi motors
have any of you tried this? It looks like it had a long straw that you put into the intake boot while the car is running and spray it and its supposed to clean/ burn away buildup as it goes part and into the cylinders.
I tried it!
So I bought this and tried it since I'm impatient and decided not to wait for an answer lol.. Its a can of season that has a long time and plastic hook. You pull the boot off of your throttle body and hook the hook around so it faces it then push the boot back on so it's snug. Make sure the motor is warm and all accessories off. Rev engine 15-2000 rpm and hold it while spraying full can. Bring engine back to idle then turn it off and let sit for 15 minutes put the car back together and drive vigorously for a few minutes. Also holy crap it worked well. Feels like a completely different car.
I have used plain water in the past in the same way. That was on carbureted vehicles, so much easier. No turbo, either. Just take the air cleaner off, bring the revs up, trickle the water into the carb. I can tell you that we did this before a rebuild, and the valves, combustion chamber, and tops of pistons were clean as a whistle upon disassembly. I see no reason why this SeaFoam treatment wouldn't work on DI turbo cars. As long as it is placed correctly, and does not foul any sensors. And, with my fly-by-wire throttle, you will need two people to accomplish, as there is no butterfly to operate by hand.
Yep!
My wife had to hold revs for me and was really helpful. Turned out well. I'll probably do it again in a few thousand miles when I change the oil. Mostly because the car has 90k miles and I don't know if it was ever done before now.
Do it!
I bought this car used and it felt pretty quick but, after the seafoam the power felt like it came on quicker and seemed to keep building rather than level off once you got in the higher revs.
Glad it worked for you, has been discussed so many times on NAM that is why nobody rushed to answer. I used it once on a BMW but it wasn't DI.

Me too!
I've been seeing where people put regular seafoam through the pcv but none that used this spray that's why I asked about it. It was a pita to get the boot pulled back as I had to take the wheel off just to reach the throttle body but now that I've adjusted the hose clamp it'll be much easier the next time 😊
