Please clear up battery confusion

My 2010 MCS has its original battery and recently it has struggled to start so I figured it would be a straight forward replacement until I learned about the IBS and registering the battery.

I called my local Mini shop and he quoted $300 + for battery and registering.

I then remembered reading that not all R56's had IBS so I checked mine and noticed that there is no such module on the neg side of the battery. Just the cable.

I called back the Mini shop thinking I would save some money since I didn't see the IBS. He said I still need to register it becasue of a footwell module. Same price.

So what to do? Is he right or mistaken? I'd rather swap out myself but don't want to run into any trouble.

Thanks!!

Labor wise it's trivial to replace the battery. If you don't have the IBS then I don't think you need to register the battery to the car either. I replaced the non IBS battery on my 08 MCS without registering.

I replaced battery myself in 2010 MCS at about fifth year and 60,000 miles. No IBS and no problems.

Not all R56 models have IBS. Some do. If you have IBS they just need to reset it. Just watch so you dont damage the cowl on removal.
