Need Help with Clutch.

Hi guys I have a 2008 R56 and has 101k the clutch feels "spongy" when I press the clutch to the end it feels hard and I cant seem to get it into 1st gear. if i jam it into 1st gear it goes in after that all gears are fine, the Dot4 container is full, i checked the clutch slave cyl and there is no outside damage or leaking however i didn't take it apart. has anyone had this issue before? thank you all in advance.

Do you know the last time the fluid was changed? If it is fresh, have you tried bleeding it? Is there any clutch slippage when driving?

Bleeding instructions can be found here.

did you check if the air or water pipes are in the path of the shifter cables (by the thermostat or oil filter housing) preventing from moving. Also, when you shift to 3rd or 5th from stop, do they go in smoothly or they struggle?

The R56 is an 08 with 102k miles, I don't think it has ever been changed. No I have not tried bleeding it yet. And no there is NO clutch slippage at all it pulls hard. Thank you very much for the help!!!!

All the pipes are good, I have not tried going into 3rd to 6th from stop. so far the only struggle is 1st.

When I had gear engagement problems, it turned out to be bad bushings on top of the transmission --- where the cables hook to the transmission levers. I did not have a "spongy" clutch.

If the gears grind and complain when you "jam" it, there's probably a clutch release problem. If it's only an engagement problem, with no gear-grinding noise, look for loose or mis-adjusted linkage.

How is your pedal travel? Does it seem long or abnormal? Definitely check your shift cables to make sure they're not binding, corroded or damaged. If you have never changed the transmission fluid, be sure to check out this link here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti..._Replacing.htm. Grinding of gears could be related to old fluid breaking down too quickly or low transmission fluid. Since you've never replaced it, it may not be a bad idea to do so anyways. Process of elimination. Let us know what you find out.

I would change out all the brake fluid and then bleed the clutch. The brakes diffidently need it anyway and I could feel a difference when I changed mine out with unknown miles as I bought my 2007 MCS used with 110,000 miles on it.

How could you tell your slave cylinder was leaking? Was it showing fluid, was it damp or dry? Here is mine.

Between the engine and trans case there is 2 little holes. Mine was leaking there. It leaks bad. It was also wet where the slave mounts to trans. Yours looks fine so no leaks.

I would think it could still be worn out inside without leaking. But I'm unsure how to check that. I would still change out the brake fluid in all the brakes and then the clutch. They definitely need it.

Is your clutch pedal almost all tge way out before engagement? We had these symptons right before the clutch plate failed. When I replaced the clutch one side of the clutch plate had worn down to the rivets and the material all came off and then there was no engagement.
