Best Power Mods for 2009 MCS

I picked up my R56 not too long ago and I love the car to death, I just want a little more power out of it. I already have all the handling upgrades I want lined up, I was just curious what were the best ways to pull some more power out of these things?(tunes, exhausts, etc...) I don't plan on going too crazy, just another 20hp or so would be nice.

Manic Stage 1 tune can probably get you that extra HP with no supporting mods required. Otherwise it's the usual intercooler + catless dp + high flow intake panel filter (aFe, K&N) plus a few other supporting mods to get you to stage 2. JB+ is another option, plug n play for like $200

Ahhh okay. I already planned on getting a catback and CAI for some sound and throttle response. I've heard about the manic tune before. Where would I go about getting it?

Exhausts and intakes don't provide any response gains, just fantastic sounds.

The JB+ is only applicable for the N18 cars, if you've got an N14 car it's not compatible.

A tune is going to be the best "power adder" for the car. You can contact any of the Manic dealers for tuning advise.

Whats your opinion on exhaust brands? I'm pretty set on ddm intake wise but iffy on exhausts. As for motor I have an n14 car so I'd have to go with manic

The DDM exhaust was the system we sold the most of, but they have gone on an indefinite back order while they find a more reliable supplier.

The Milltek system isn't a bad setup, and the Magnaflow uses smaller piping than the DDM but the same muffler so in reality it'll be a little less deep of a tone.

For power a Forge intercooler would be the first mod I'd recommend.
https://www.waymotorworks.com/forge-...r-s-turbo.html
Would also do the pipes with it as they will help with throttle response.

https://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-re...7-r58-r59.html

Then we can do a tune by either bringing the car to our shop or shipping your ECU to us
https://www.waymotorworks.com/perfor...-cooper-s.html

I wouldn't bother with an Intake or Exhaust as they are just for noise.

If you must have an exhaust just the Invidia will work and be affordable as it is a full exhaust and not just a muffler

Let us know what else you need to know

Upgrades

I have an 09 as well, I did forge BOV, aem intake, Intercooler, wavetec lsd, clutchmaster 350 aluminum, m7 resonator delete, miltek 2.5 inch catless downpipe, cravenspeed shortshift, and a tune, pushing over 250hp.

The difference is insane.

The Intercooler I got off eBay, don't waste your money on brand name not for something like that. Just saying works perfectly for me.

Wavetec lsd made by guy who left quaife and started his own company, essentially same exact part much better price.

If you ever plan on upgrading turbo do a 3 inch catless downpipe I messed up and will need to change it when I upgrade. (didn't do all my homework)

Hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. How are your emissions with that downpipe? I live in Cali so I have to be weary about that

You should speak with your mechanic about possible options. Depending on how emissions tests are conducted a tune might be able to fix that

Catless you are never going to pass cali emissions. Im getting a catless dp myself in CA. But when smog time comes around i can swap DPs in like 30 minutes so no biggie for me. MarioKart makes a catless dp that won't set an o2 sensor fault to avoid that.
I have a buddy that got an ebay intercooler for $170. He has had it for 2 years and it has not failed. Im against ebay cheap stuff but that's definitely an option . It gave noticeable power gain . I've just been waiting for it to get a hole ,crack or leak from a weld but the part has lasted.

Smog depends upon the model year here in CA. From new to 5 years, you have no smog check. After that, they just look for proper Check Engine light function (should come on with ign on, should go off shortly after engine start), check with an OBD2 scanner to make sure all monitors have run, send you on your way. CA does not do the dyno tests anymore for OBD2 cars, as far as I know. I am all for the eBay intercoolers, have one myself. No issues. Those who "track" their cars may report differently.
