R56 Uh oh... Got another question for you guys
Uh oh... Got another question for you guys
So I got my Alta Accessport on Thursday and loaded a stage 1 91 octane map. I was driving around and noticed that there was some stumbling around 16-18 psi. Well a few moments later I tried to recreate the stumble and my car threw a p2781 code.... I hear that's the high pressure fuel pump and it might be covered under warranty, is this all correct and will they still cover it if I uninstall the ap?
Here's a link to Perrins code breakdown --- http://blog.perrinperformance.com/mini-r56-dtcs-list/ Probably lots of other things that can cause a misfire. Are the plugs in good shape? Maybe close the gap a bit? Do you have all the listed mods for the map you installed? Are you getting these codes with OEM map? Any other mods? Maybe try "Stage 0"?
If you don't get these codes with the OEM map, the dealer isn't gonna do much. I've been up front with my dealers service dept --- they know all about my aftermarket tune and mods, and so far, all warranty work has been done FOC. As long as the mods don't affect a problem area, warranty work shouldn't be rejected. In the case of misfires on an AP tune, be prepared to pay. You might also consider having them do a diagnostic with your tune installed.
I always remind them of the after market tune so they don't try to upgrade or repair software.

I would notice the stutter when I was stock also and hit over boost.. What does TSB stand for / mean and what do you think it is? It's a misfire on all 4 and I got new coils at 75,000 miles I'm at 88,000 now. And I can boost just not full throttle... I'll try going oem tune, but the stage 1 tune said stock with 91 oct. AllI have is the boost tube. Should I call the stealership and uninstall tune?
TSB " tech service bulletin " ... i would start by looking at all your vac-line's!! are you leaking any oil from the valve cover ! what kind of plug's are you runing?? what kind of tune are you runing??! what mods do you have ???? i dont think its the tune ' my guess would be its power-plant related??
The only bolt ons I have are the hot side boost tube and I have a map sensor adapter for a boost gauge. I'm running a stage one 91 octane throttle position sensor tune and I only put 93 in my car. I don't remember the plugs I have but they aren't the laser iridium. I might have to try that. The only other thing I could think is maybe carbon build up? Maybe the tune is just making everything hotter? It seems to be getting worse.
And I would have to agree I don't think it's the tune but it does make it worse..
By the way thank you guys for the responses, this is why I love owning a mini

I read somewhere that our coils ('07 R56) are designed for iridium plugs. What model / year are you working with, and are the replacement coils OEM? The '07 MCS came with NGK 5992's which have been discontinued and replaced by NGK 95770. Those of us with lotsa mods have good luck with NGK 1422, 1 step colder. We're also mostly well beyond Alta's stage 1.
learn something new ever day! i didn't even know alta offered tune's!!
but p2781 "P2781 Misfire Mult Cyl Max "
are you ruining oem coil's ? and yeh i would get the ngk's laser iridium my local auto store had them in stock !!! "orileys"
and if your still having problem's give chad over at detroit tuning a call! and see if he can help you out!

Think I figured it out, when I loaded the tune I thought i picked stage 1 91 octane with tps... Looks like I didn't. (Even though when I went to view current map it said stage 1 91 octane tps). I don't think a stage 1 map should have 19.5 psi..
Yeah I switched from different stage 1 only maps a few times yesterday but it was still running that high boost level. Right now my peak boost is showing 15.4 psi. I really miss the 19psi... Is that what a stage 2 tune(with Fmic and exhaust) would see? I know all tunes are different but still.
15psi stage 1 tune!!! that would sound about right! i dont know much about the alta tune's!!! most vw an audi tune's with stage 1 are about 15-17psi.. are you still getting detonation after switching the tune around?
I'am running a manic stage 2 on my r56 ! and its a blast ! i have a open down pipe with a ddm 3" exhaust forge front mount with many other mod's and i peck about 25psi and hold 23 psi .
the one thing i would suggest doing is getting a new DV valve! i would hate to see the high boost blowing it up! check into this forge!
they are pretty much the same but one vent's to atmosphere and the other just vents back into the system! and get the upgrade psi spring right away, just directly order from forge that way you can get the spring and valve together i just link them to give you a idea,

the misfire did go away. I'll definably be getting a new bov soon when the bank account approves
are the bov adapters (go fast bits makes one) any good? Won't the cel go off if I get an atmospheric bov?

honestly I'm not a big fan of the adapters but that's just my opinion! and no to the check Engine light for the atmospheric BOV! I can only verify about the Forge bov! i ran one bone stock and nothing! as of now am planning on getting the diverter valve because I'm not a giant fan of the sound any more ! being it goes off ever two seconds! but if you're interested I would be willing to sell you mine for like 100 bucks!
