how much will dealership pay for this MCS?

so my co-worker is getting a new 4door MCS, so he s going to trade his current MCS. and he said he would consider selling it to me at whatever the dealership trade is.

he said the dealer is giving him $16k....might be a little high for dealers, or he might just pulling my legs??

2013 (nov 2013 build) mini cooper S 23k miles, about 2.5 years of ownership, mini warranty still valid...VIN T480235 for specs.

summary, MSC, manual trans, punch leather seats, HID, comfort access, garage clickers, bluetooth, ice blue color, NO sunroof.

this car is pretty much perfect condition. 2 oil changes at dealerships already.

so let me know if $16k is worth it.

Sounds like the dealer is making a no strings attached suggestions....
Gets you thinking and dreaming about a new car....
Hopes to get you "hooked"....and get you back ...
Then they will appraise it...say "I can only give you what it's it was worth" line...
But they got you to fall in love with the idea of a new car...and for only a bit more than you thought, can make it cone true.....
They do it ALL DAY LONG...
We still get unsolicited offers from a Toyota dealer, saying"we have a buyer for your car" and "will pay 130%" bluebook on you "2003 Toyota Highlander" with 273,000 miles...as" a special one owner car with a great service record"...that we sold last year to a different dealer....funny thing is...bluebook only goes...er..10 years last time I looked...so think it was an auto computer generated letter?! Yup...trying to get you thinking....get you in...just like the old term, shaking the trees....

lotta times they give a big trade in, but make it back up by not discounting off msrp much if at all

I always work numbers with dealer at cash price, then ask about trade values, I always end up selling private party

You don't know how trades work, right???

The dealer isn't giving him $16K, he's giving him less than that and taking some profit out of the new car. Chances are that he's getting about $14K-$15K for his car and the dealer is taking the rest out of profit on the new car.

Ask him to have the dealer quote the wholesale for his car - that's what he's getting. He can then ask the dealer to take the difference off the top of the new car price.

Otherwise, you can just go with the trade price. It should be below retail anyway. Check NADA and other sources to confirm this.

so i talked to my co-worker some more,

he special ordered his 4-door MCS, and he said it would take about 2 months to get here.

he HAS NOT gotten a quote from the dealership for the trade in yet, he will go in about 1-2 weeks before the new car gets here and ask about trade-in price.

the $16k number came from what he thinks he can get according to his research. (just wanted to clear up some confusing of where the $# came from)

so i think in reality, the dealership probably will give him $13-$14k or even less LOL

i guess all i can do is wait

$16 is a clean trade value based on current Black Book portal.

i hope its in the 12-13K, because @ 16k might be too expensive for me considering, Mini coopers require $$$ to maintain and fix.

tell him to take it to carmax, they will give him an actual check for the car. dealerships often over-allow to make a deal happen.

Which is what I explained earlier. Any dealer will buy a car for wholesale - and that's all they pay for it. Any $ above wholesale is money they're taking out of the car they're selling and adding to the "value" of the trade.
