Are HPFP Repairable
I've read a lot about symptoms and diagnosing the HPFP failure. I can't find any conversation on repairing the pump itself.
I'm guessing it's nothing more than a small vane pump. Does anyone know what the actual root cause of failure is? Has anyone had success with disassembly and repair of a HPFP?

No one is making a repair kit for them or an aftermarket replacement. BMW needs to make their money so they'd rather sell you a new pump for $1k.
IIRC I read somewhere on here it's a valve/solenoid that fails and allows backflow of fuel away from the engine, but that may be wrong.
I still have my failed one in my trunk in case a repair kit comes out.

Hi Stokersrule, have you had this problem and on what year and model? Those having this problem may find the following useful:
"Due to issues with the High Pressure Fuel Pump on the 2007, 2008, and 2009 MINI Cooper S models with the N14 engine, the MINI Factory has extended the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump to 10 years or 120,000 miles on US model Minis. Contact your nearest MINI Dealer for details."

I came across an explanation of the failure but can't find it now. I recall searching peugot hpfp and seeing some Europe based info. Several outsourced manufacturers have made pumps for Mini, I can't blame BMW if the suppliers are jacking up prices for whatever reasons. I'm just thrilled that mine was free to replace this past week.
Rebuilding is a dying or dead practice.

If there is a rebuild kit it's something aftermarket, MINI/BMW doesn't have rebuild kits hardly at all. When your billing technician time at over $100 per hour it's cheaper to replace rather than take out and clean, rebuild and reinstall. On some parts (HPFP) for example there are other parts now required because of a redesign of the original part. People give the dealers a hard time for being expensive but they don't see how many special tools they have to buy only from the manufacturers to fix their cars.
