I got a hold of a set of nice (inexpensive) 18" aftermarket wheels that I was planning to put on my R56. The offset and size seem to be a good fit but the holes for the studs are too small.
It looks like the R56 has 14mm studs and the holes on the wheels are drilled for 12mm.
Now, I know there are M14 to M12 conversion studs and I'm willing to try them however my question is about the hub diameter.
I come from a BMW background where hubcentric wheels were a must but on the aftermarket wheels I have for the Mini, the center hole is much bigger than the originals.
Is this going to be an issue??? I'm not sure I'm comfortable going from a 14mm stud down to a 12mm stud AND not having the hub support that the original wheels had.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Am I being too cautious or will the aftermarket wheels be safe in the end??
You can order what I assume would be a 73.1mm (typical universal wheel hub bore) to 56.1mm (that's a confident guess on the hub size of your R56) hubcentric ring adapter from lots of places. I usually get mine from ebay and always opt for aluminum over plastic versions. Should be $20-30 for a set. Double check my sizes.
