Resurface cylinder head??

I need to replace cylinder head gasket and because of that will resurface cylinder head. My engine uses stock gasket thickness 0.90mm and would like to keep that but as head will be resurfaced some material will be removed.

My question is : how much material can be removed to keep same thickness for gasket 0.90mm? For sure I plan to use a new gasket. The head has not warpage I just want to make surface surface finish is correct for MLS gasket.

tks

I wouldn't worry about a simple resurface. If it's warped and needs more taken off,
or has had a touch up resurface a couple times or more, you might be able to make
a case for using a thicker gasket, especially if taking off more than 0.2 to 0.3 mm.
Thicker gaskets are usually about 0.3 mm thicker than stock, so that should give
you an idea.

The head is not warped so I believe few 0.05mm should be enough to get the surface finish back for a new MLS gasket.

I'm sure a shop will do it. The amount that it will change the compression is like zero. Unless somebody knocks like 50 tho off it and you make a thin head gasket like I did. But I made mine thicker. Either way, tell them to try and stay off the steel ball that's pressed in.

If it's not warped, why mess with it? There's no need. Have a shop check it for accuracy and that's all you need to do.

I realized the resurface actually took more that what I initially anticipated. The took 0.20mm. So looks like I need to go with thicker gasket. tks

Or you could make sure you stick with 93 octane fuel and get the benefit of
the marginally increased CR. Could really do it either way.
I believe 0.2 mm would change the CR about .25 up, using a 1.2 gasket
would lower it about .125.

If you're not using a higher lift cam, piston to valve clearance shouldn't be a problem.

It's only .007, that's not gonna change anything to require a different gasket.

Near every head we get back from our machine shop has had .003-005" taken off. You shouldn't have any worries with a stock gasket, as long as the machine shop knows what they're doing.
