Salvage Yard Spare Tire Options?

Hello Everyone,

Sorry to post this question again. What are the approved spare tires/wheels from salvage yards? There just does not seem to be a consensus.

I understand that the spare tires with MINI factory rims from Detroit Tuned and Way Motor Works are best. But, pretty steep for $130 with shipping for something a may never use . So, that is why I'm looking at Salvage for $50 as a possibility.

I have been unable to find salvaged Mini Spares. All the posts that I have searched on NAM say that 4x100 15' inch Chevy Cobalt, certain Honda Fit, and Miatas will work. But, then there are some posts second guessing these options. It also concerns me that certain specs don't match up. Example on the Cobalt spare the hub bore is different by 1.0 mm and the lug size is a bit different. Does this not matter because it's so minimal? Offset difference ok for just suing on the rear wheels? Especially for short driveing trips to just get repaired.

Bolt Pattern (in):
Bolt Pattern (mm):
Offset (mm):
Front CB (mm):
Rear CB (mm):
Stud Size:

Cooper S
4x4.00
4x100
35 to 45
57.1
57.1
12x1.5

Cobalt
4x4.00
4x100
40 to 48
56.1
56.1
14x1.25

Please no slime and AAA comments. I don't want to depend on slime because of the extra cleaning charge and it can ruin the sensor from what I have read. I don't want to wait around for AAA depending on the place.

I'll pay the extra money to be right, but if I can save some money I would like to do that.

Thanks!

I bet you can find a match to your other tires/wheels on Craigslist or Ebay if you poke around for a while.

You can also check TireRack or Discount Tire for advice on interchanges.

I roll around with a tire plug kit and a little harbor freight cigarette lighter air compressor in the back (no slime). Those tire plugs are how they "repair" your tire at the tire shop anyways. That's a 5 minute easy fix on the side of the road and keeps you from somehow trying to secure a giant spare... Just find it, ream it and plug it breh

I have a plug kit and a compressor. Those are not going to help me if I have a large puncture or a leak on the sidewall. That is why I'm getting a spare. I take longer trips, I'm not just local.
