Tach light

Hey everyone. I've read these for a long time but never posted. Just signed up today, actually. Love the site! It always saves me!

Anyway. This may be an incredibly stupid question, but what is the light right above the ODO rest button on the tach? I have never once seen it on. I assumed it went along with the alarm or the efficient shift thing. Can anyone tell me what it's supposed to be for?

Thanks!

-Johnny

Yes that is for the alarm system when installed. Every MINI has it

I know the very top of the tach is the "heartbeat" light, but this is the light immediately above the ODO reset button that I'm curious about. It's a little circle.

It isn't a light. It's a light sensor for illumination level.

It has been discussed here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hat-is-it.html

It's like one of the dots you probably have near the top of your cellphone. It senses the brightness of ambient light to adjust the brightness of the display.

Put you hand over it and then away you will see the lights change.
