R56 water pump replace question.

long story short -- i didnt have radiator filled to capacity--it got hot/showed lo level/ water pump blew seal [i assume..] saw fluid from weep hole. After removing pump i find the following inside where impeller stays [bits i thought were a seal but end up being fragments of black plastic water pipe/ 1 o-ring].
Question: where does o-ring go?? 2. am i going to have to replace the plastic water pipe insert??[i.e. pipe end is not flush aprox. 2mm of end knocked off over 80% of diameter].
tried searching FAQs and didnt find anything similar. this is 2009 S / 2nd production run vehicle.
