So we had the east coast blizzard over the weekend and I finally took my (new to me) 2007 MCS out in the snow. This is one fantastic car on snow. I've owned a R350 4Matic and an A4 Quattro and this car was just as good. In fact, I'd say it handles better than both in the snow. The ABS and traction control plus a manual clutch worked beautifully together. Still loving this car. Most fun I've ever had driving in the snow. The handling definitely inspired confidence, maybe even over confidence. Great car!!
I havn't taken mine in the snow yet, but i'm about to take a cross country ski trip in it, so thats good to hear. +1 for having good snow tires and not "all-season" tires, they make a huge difference.
I've yet to be late or miss a day of work, I'm lowered on snow tires with a POWER!!!! attitude when it comes to managing snow.
My neighbor's 4Matic Mercedes got stuck, same for my friend's Honda Accord yesterday.
My Mini had no problems whatsoever. It was like being a rally car driver yesterday and I Loved it.
Something special about BMW traction control on a small FWD car with an ultra short wheelbase. My VW CC traction control is a piece of junk and does nothing but steer the car into a ditch even in light snow. VW should re-label the TCS button, Ditch Finder.
Yes, my Mini drinks oil, but so far it's totally worth it.

My 11 MCS is great in snow and mud. The 2-lane highway I drive to work was stopped-up last winter (2014-15) when we had a bit of snow and ice. A truck with trailer had lost it, and spun out, almost entirely blocking the road. I am from Western PA originally, so I know how to drive on snow and ice. It was kinda funny watching all the folks who had pulled over trying to flag me down, saying "stop, you will never make it". Well, I took it slow and easy, drove right through, and that was on Cooper CS5 Ultra-Touring tires. Made it to work on time. Even took some pics of the stuff I had to navigate. Oh, mud? I live on a dirt road, and that turns to a mix of clay, sand and muck when it rains. Hills and turns. Never an issue. Turn the traction control off, keep to the center of the road, and slog on! I DO hate the cleanup afterwards, but it's just so much fun getting muddy! Of course, having said all of that, I will get stuck soon! LOL.
The MINI is, indeed, pretty good in snow with appropriate tires. I much prefer to leave the traction control switched off, though. It takes a lot of the fun out of the equation when it's turned on.
X2 on turning the DCS off, just when you need it, the DCS hits the brake and kills the throttle. Without the DCS, its POWER ON as needed. I grew up in upstate NY and learned how to drive (behind the wheel) here in the CO mountains, I'm still not sure about traction control in general, Personally I believe that Traction Control is for people who don't like to drive.
I am also in PA, Philly region and during that storm my mini tackled it like a boss. I have garbage tires on too and it mobbed through like a boss. Best car I have ever owned.
My mini sucks in the snow. I have all season 17s on basic 17x7.5 wheels. One inch of snow on a 20% incline and Im stuck. I hate the winter, I have experience in the snow but this car is so light and torquey.
