Problem at 120k. Plz help

I have a 2008 r56s with 120k miles. Recently I've been having a intermittent misfire with a loud popping/banging coming from the exhaust. It only happens at WOT from around 3500-4500 RPM 2nd-6th gear. The vehicle idles fine and have no cold start problems. Timing chain and HPFP has been done at 110k. The car is completely stock. The codes are p0300, p0301, p0302, p0303, p0304 and not all at once. Sometimes just one code and other times maybe 3. When it doesn't happen the engine feels strong. Maybe a clogged cat or o2 sensor? I really don't want to throw parts at the car if it doesn't make sense. Thanks

With misfire codes like that, I would be thinking coils and/or plugs. HPFP just being replaced, I would probably not think that would be the cause, especially since you are not getting low fuel pressure codes. Another thought....have you had the valves walnut blasted or cleaned in any other way?

Blasting and checking the coil and plugs . For them all to be bad I would be a Carbon cleaning is due. For the O2 sensor , you will see a decrease in MPG, or a sudden drop. Clogged cat with sometime show a very hot exhaust temp reading.

+1 on carbon clean up. At that mileage, if you haven't done it or know when it has been done, I'd get it done and see if this clears up your misfires. You'll want to do this clean up about every 50k miles. Once the build-up reaches the maximum tolerable level, the engine will begin to run rough and misfire. You may have a rough idle, poor acceleration, stalling or single to multiple cylinder misfires.

We have a DIY HERE that can help you.

Does it make sense to do the carbon cleaning even though I don't have any cold start problems. The misfires go away if I continually to hammer on the throttle. Like it gets hot and clears up.

Yes, it is a good idea to do a carbon clean up every 50,000 miles. The down side to direct injection (what your MINI has) is the lack of fuel spraying on the back of the intake valve. This removes the cleaning effect port fuel injection engines get, a real benefit new engine designs need.

I have done it personally on my R56 MCS and you could feel the difference, its good maintenance and will improve mpg an hp. Especially if it never been done.

I have a 2007 r56 that keeps spinning off codes of p0300, p0301, p0014, and p0014p. Sometimes it will spin one or all. I have no power, lose power, or sometimes I have a ton of power. I've replaced coils and spark plugs, a few sensors, and I'm at a loss. Could this be build-up as well?

Mine lucky ended up only being the plugs. Do you have cold start problems? When do you get the misfires? Can you cause the misfire to happen? p0014 have you changed out your camshaft position sensor?

Do not have any cold start problems other than when the battery is drained from a small clicking and beeping sound when the car is shut off. I've replaced the two sensors on top of the motor on the drivers side, not the two on the passenger side. I've pulled them and cleaned them which didn't make any difference. As for the misfire, the car will lose power in the pedal. The misfire happens at random.

Would you say that your MINI idles poorly? The multiple misfires could be a sign of carbon build up. How many miles are on your R56 and have you ever done a clean up? P0014 is 'B' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1). I have seen some individuals clean or replace the VANOS with success, but it could be a timing issue. Some info HERE and HERE.

Thats along the lines, when you done the plugs , coils, and evevrything else , the next step is to have the carbon done , if its never been done, then its time.
