Thermostat housing cracked?

So I was driving around this evening and my orange coolant light came on then off, then back on now red. Pulled over at a service station and added about 1/2 gallon of water and managed to drive it home about 5 miles with out the coolant light coming back on. Get into my driveway and see some steam rising from the drivers side of the hood. Pop the hood and I can hear a hissing sound and pretty much all the coolant on the ground. Grab a flashlight and I can kinda see somewhere under the intake tube the thermostat housing must be cracked as there is a steady spray of coolant coming from that area.

Is that pretty common for the housing to crack?

And the 521 Thermostats are still on back order but obtainable. There are more on the way from Germany, just a matter of days.

Here is the DIY, yep sounds like the thermostat. Leaks on top of the transmission. Mine did it, but I caught it before the overheat. Fan was just running much longer and when it was cold. The genuine MINI was BO , but they have to come from germany which takes sometimes about 1- 2 weeks to get here. Our site has a glitch and it shows a little longer. Fixing that. We do have another options which is the same thing aftermarket if you need one asap. We are one of the few people in the world to have them.

We still have a stock pile of them, we've actually sold a couple back to the dealer to keep them in business.

MINI Thermostat N14/12

MINI Thermostat N18/16

The N18/16 thermostat requires an adapter harness to work properly which we also have on hand. Thermostat Harness

It's common for the plastic thermostat to start as a hairline crack. We have a few Genuine thermostat in stock HERE for your '10 MCS. We also have a DIY under "tech info" on our site for the replacement if you decide to tackle the job yourself. Be sure to use MINI coolant HERE 50/50 with distilled water. If you decide you want to tackle a few other items in your cooling system while you do the thermostat, we have some great kits HERE.

Pretty crazy as all the dealers are out, but us aftermarket companies were able to stock them up. We have even had a few dealers we have helped by sending them some.
