I just purchased a 2013 JCW and I have a back-up light question. I just notice that my left light is solid red and my right light is red on the outer portion but clear in the center. It looks like the pic below. Why the mis-match in lense type? Is this normal? Also when I go into reverse, only the right side lights up and the left side does not. I assume my left bulb needs to to be replaced? Again just seems odd that the left and right side is different.
It's normal for JCW and GP models. Many of us added the euro left side and wired it to the right.

Thank you for the prompt response. I did some googling (is this a word?) and I discovered this is normal. Super weird on Mini/BMW
No problem. Is very Mini Quirky.

The all-red light on the left side is a rear fog lamp. It will only operate if your car has the rear fog option. If your car doesn't have the rear fog option, it does nothing.

Yep. It's normal. When I saw this on my JCW I thought "great what did the owner before me do. Now I have to change a lens and a bulb."
Nope. It normal. One side is a fog lamp and this light comes on when you shift the car into reverse I believe. No worries.
No, the rear fog does not turn on with the car in reverse. If you don't care about having a rear fog, you can convert it to a second reverse light. See this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-up-light.html
What I'm saying is that I agree with the op and can be seen in his pic. The passenger side fog light is clear/white and the drivers side is red. Well I believe (not near my car so I cannot confirm) that the light behind the clear lens (passenger side) only lights up when I put my JCW in reverse. It appears the bulb is bad when you flip on the fog light but it isn't true because that light is only used for the reverse light. The drivers side is red and comes on when you flip on the rear fog light. Correct me if I am wrong. So when you flip on the rear fog light only the drivers side rear light illuminates. And the passenger side doesn't which makes it appear that the passenger side bulb is burnt out. It isn't cuz it's only used as the reverse light. I verified this by swapping bulbs from drivers to passenger side.
@timski, we are not disagreeing on anything. The OP's car is set up with one reverse light on the passenger side and one rear fog light on the drivers side.
The drivers side rear fog may or may not actually work, depending on whether the car was built with the rear fog option (an extra cost option). If the car doesn't have the option, the rear fog toggle switch will be missing, and although the lamp is there it won't do anything.
If the OP prefers to have two reverse lights (instead of one reverse and one fog), it is possible as described in the link I gave.

Ok got it. I re-read all the posts. I didn't realize he didn't have the rear fog option.
