When I push the defrost button I get a loud pop like when a wire sparks. Is this normal? Anyone experience this? In the pic, it's the button on the right directly under the recirculate interior air button. Winshield defrost makes a popping a noise-image-1631651545.jpg

My 2011 doesn't do that. Mine is for the rear window, on the hatch. I would say something is not right.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't look up what the button actually does but it makes sense it's for the rear hatch window. I don't really use my JCW in cold weather so I guess I'll just not push it until I can figure out what's up.

That is the defrost for the rear window. Where do you hear this pop coming from?

It sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the speedo. Difficult to pinpoint the
Exact location but from the front of the car for sure.

Do you have a video , it should not make a loud popping noise, you should here the flaps for the air blend move ans shut when you flip to front defrost.

I would get that checked out sooner rather than later.

Sorry no video. It's in the shop to have the core support changed. Hit a raccoon. And my JCW is low.

An update on my JCW after hitting an animal:

Parts replaced / items corrected -

1. Both front tires bent so they straightened them out and resurfaced the black rims.
2. Replaced core support.
3. Replaced front left and right wheel well liners.
4. Repainted entire front bumper because as they pulled off the clear tape bra the paint peeled.
5. Replaced lower front spoiler.
6. Performed alignment.

Grand total: $3,125
Luckily all covered by insurance.

Glad it was all covered by insurance. Is the popping gone now?

Actually the JCW is in for repair for the front end only. I never use the rear defrost and wouldn't be covered under this claim so I'll have to address that later. Winshield defrost makes a popping a noise-image-2909370781.jpg

Also, update: cost was reduced to $2,400 because they simply painted a new bumper instead of reusing the old one and stripping paint and also I think the insurance company negotiated a few things.

Looks much better now. Let me know what you find on the defrost. It should no pop unless its the relay clicking very loudly.

I'll have to open the wiring diagrams (hopefully in the Bentley) and take a detailed look and the circuit. Doesn't sound like a relay opening or closing sounds more like a wire sparking. Yikes.

Looks very good. Wasn't sure if the popping was pre or post you hitting the animal. May need to break in there when you have time and make sure everything in there is properly intact.

Haha. The pic is actually the "before" collision repair. But I know people like pics.

Well I just randomly discovered the popping noise so I can't say exactly when it started. I never use the rear defrost so who knows when it started making a strange noise.
