R56 Rear ended
Rear ended
I was coming home from work yesterday and I was stopped behind several cars at a light. When all of a sudden I see this dodge mini van getting bigger in my rear view mirror really fast. He didn't even attempt to brake, he pushed through me and spun me around so that I was facing back the other way. I was pretty lucky and came out of it with a bump on the head and a stiff neck. The car on the other hand not so much. Right rear tire is blown out, both rear wheels are locked. I think because the suspension appears to be pushed forward also. Boot lid is destroyed rear bumper is destroyed. Quite a bit of rear body damage. I will attach a couple pictures I took before I had to go to the ER.
Yep, it's headed for the salvage yard. Pleased you seem to be ok, that's whats really important. I assume the other driver was cited and they had insurance? Keep us updated, is always interesting to see how things turn out..

There was actually a sherif two cars ahead of me and saw the whole thing. Yeah he had insurance I don't know if he was cited or not. I left for the hospital to get my head looked at so I don't know if he was cited or not.
Car was released from impound and sent to the body shop to start disassembly and evaluation for the estimate. Took some new pictures, damage was a lot more intense than I thought. Definitely not a good day when the response from the body shop guy was "damn you got hit hard!".
Ouch , sorry to hear this. I bet the repair cost are very high and it looks like it might be considered totaled. :(

Just to update everyone, turns out it was $11,300 in damage. Insurance totaled it out. The Mini was fun while it lasted but I think I am going to move on and get something a little more functional for the family and lifestyle.
Sorry to hear this, rebuild to a track car

Well I own a body shop, but I don't work there. By the pictures it looks fixable,BUT the insurance looks at the year, mileage and bluebook value. If you get within 80% of the value they will total it. You didn't mention airbag deployment. If the airbag deployed it definately will be totalled.

My wife just yesterday made a comment about our new (to us) MCS Hatch, viz. how there is very little space between the rear seats and danger, and we wondered how back seat passengers would fare in a situation such as yours. I think we both assumed a collision from the rear would be very bad news indeed for them, but your pics seem to indicate substantial maintenance of integrity of the actual passenger box.
How fast was the dunce (presumably texting) traveling when he hit you, and what is your impression of the vehicle's back seat integrity?
Thanks
