Ah, got it. Is there a specific date to designate the change? I have a 2010 MCS and I think that is the year it changed? Correct?

I don't know the exact dates. I believe it was mid year 2010. LCI S hatchback has the brake ducts in the front bumper and the style of tail light shown in this thread, with reverse lights in the lower rear bumper. Pre-LCI had reverse lights as part of the tail light. I'm no expert on LCI cars though.

For example in the photo i'm posting you can see that besides the 2+2 led stripes its also a middle/center red light open...But some others...DONT.
How is that possible where is the "trick" when some lights have only the 2+2stripes on running lights and other lights have also one more light in the middle.

Thank you!
Anyone got an answer for that?
Thank you

He also pursued the coding aspect and was able to achieve the LCI functionality of the lights which I do not have. But feel free to ask any questions you may have, here or in a message.

when you say LCI functionality, what exactly does that mean? I’m looking to do this upgrade on a 2010 pre-LCI R57 and so long as I have brake lights, reverse (I’ll figure this one out and add to the bumper) turn signal then I don’t really care about anything else, I just like how they look.

What you want to do will just require splicing of a few wires. For full LCI functionality (such as brake force indication), coding is required although I have not figured out which “codes” to enable as there are quite a few brake related ones.

By this I meant things like brake force display as well as running the LED strips separately from the bulbs. With just the wiring, the lights WILL function normally, assuming you've added the lower reverse light, and preferably coded out bulb checks to avoid hyperflash on the LED strips.

Thank you. My last question before I proceed with this cosmetic upgrade would be does the LCI reverse light in pic #2 fit in a pre-LCI pictured on pic #1 by simply removing the black dummy cover and installing the reverse/fog light?

Thank you. This is what I was hoping to hear. I can splice the wires and make it work. I just like what the lights look like but don’t care much for the codes functions, I’ll be ok with basic function.

Hi,
I’m having a problem finding rear fog - back up light plug socket for my Mini Cooper S R56 2009. I replaced the rear bumper with one from an LCI / 2012 which had different fog lights, the plug coming from the car doesn't match the plug on fog lights from the new LCI bumper. Does anyone know where to get the correct plug? so I could replace it and get these rear fog - back up light to work. Or does anyone have any better ideas?

These cars are common enough at wreckers / scrapyards. If you have access to one, just hit one up and get them to snip the connector off an LCI car so u can replace the connector coming from your car with that.

Hello,

Used use those pin connections and cut back the wire a little.

Needless to say that didn't happen, so I just looked up some wiring diagrams, compared the circuit boards and connectors on N14 & N18 tail lights, and went for it. I retrofitted the blackline lights to my 2008 MCS the 'simple' way (no coding). That being said, everything works fine (to my liking), but from what I understand from videos and information on here there is some functionality to the lights that I am not able to use without coding. Basically, the lights act as though they are standard N14 tail lights (minus the reverse lights)... two brake bulbs with running and brake intensity, and turn indicator, just with the addition of the led illuminated strips. The way they function as I've installed them is when turned on (headlights or running lights), both top and bottom brake bulbs illuminate at low intensity, along with the led illuminated strips. On braking, both brake bulbs illuminate at high intensity as the old lights would. I don't think the led strips change intensity at this point. The reverse signal pins were pulled from the connectors and one was run down to replace the right side rear fog signal pin. The car already has voltage checks and bulb warnings coded out so I can't speak to anything in those regards. I wanted these lights primarily for cosmetic reasons, so I'm not worried about any loss in potential 'new' functionality. They do what they need to do as brake lights, maybe I'll look into the coding aspect in the future. Remaining rear fog functions as before, as well as relocated reverse light. I'm happy to provide info on how I wired them for anyone interested.

@Kalibdor
Hello,
could you post or pm me a step by step guide.
