Orranje UK - GP 2 Spoiler (G-Wing)

Hey guys,

I have been looking into getting a rear spoiler to round out my R56. So the OEM GP 2 wing is just wayyy too expensive. I've been looking for anyone who has made a similar spoiler. I ran into Furbrication and Orranje.

After doing a little research and shooting out some emails I'm pretty much settled on Orranje. Spoke to Rich, really great guy, really informative. They are in the UK. Their selling price is pretty fair and as you can imagine the shipping is a bit pricey.

I'm making this thread to see if anyone else out there is interested and see if maybe we can get a bunch shipped overseas here. I don't know the logistics nor if they would even be willing to do a Group Buy yet but maybe this thread could get us there.

Please post!

I might be interested if the price will be below $600 ??? For myself I would want to paint it body color so with that added expense, it would probably be around $900-1000 I would think ??? Did they give you an initial ball park price?

Not to p1ss on the parade here but I was checking out Fubrication's website and the "About" page notes some interesting information.

"All of our products are designed in USA/ UK, and manufactured in Taiwan with the highest quality."

I don't know about you but I put Taiwan right down there with China in the quality game Unless... Fubrication has found a really good producer.

Is Orranje really made in the UK?

I only discussed specs with Rich. The G-Wing sells for £270 + £60 shipping to USA. £330 or about $510USD is not a bad price at all as-is. If no one on here is interested I will just make the single order. I happen to want it Gloss Black so it matches my roof so its actually perfect as-is for me. They already come finished in gloss black, no paint necessary (unless you want another color).

Is Orranje really made in the UK?
Well let's forget Furbrication for now. Different item. Let's focus on Orranje.

The only thing Rich mentioned was that they had a very small margin for profit so the price is as-shown. I never went further then that. My understanding is everything is made in UK and that many G-Wings are made-to-order because they don't pump out large orders unless there is one.

Check this out below:

So what next? well we had learnt so much that we knew we had to go away and develop a new wing, so I sat down with the CAD and drew the new sides. Several things in mind, we needed to ensure that every spoiler was the same and did not need to go to the body shop unless the customer wanted to change it. We wanted a slight machined texture on the side, we wanted to keep the gp look of the triangles as we love them and they look much nicer so we added our twist to the sides.
We also added many modifications to the size and fit around the window to ensure an easy fit which does not need packing out or plastic plugs.

This development took time, the tooling took weeks in the shop, sourcing and testing all the fittings to ensure they where all Stainless Steel A2, obtaining riv nuts, drawing and making blanking plugs to go on the roof should you have an old removed spoiler. We used to use vinyl but you could see it had a hole under, look cheep

The wing on our MK1, we had feedback it used to flex, so we tested 10 spoilers with and without to measure the differences, then we decided hollow spoilers need a PU foam filling, this has been applied to all our new spoilers and makes them rigid.

Does the GP item flex? well in truth yes but not as much, this is down to the resin used, also lets not forget its a true resin impregnated vac bagged carbon item not a wet lay.

The current orranje tooling being machined

Tooling finished before mounting in the injection machine

Side coming out of the tool

Now since the part will always come from a quality tool we can be sure in the knowing our parts will always be the same all the time. What a lovely tool Quality starts at the top if the mould is bad the parts will be all the time.

So I guess I should tell you something about the original GP spoiler, what is it made from? well its an odd one, the brackets that connect to the car are impregnated carbon with a alloy insert, they are then bonded to the hollow aluminium side plates and connect to the wing with a carbon brackets with clinch nuts and bolts. Quite a complex item to make and very expensive too.

Now lastly why should you consider the orranje G wing? well its up to you really!
We have put the time in so you open the box and fit it to the car. You do not need to send it off to a body shop and have it painted unless you want too, This is going to add at least another £80 to £100 so consider this! By putting the work in upfront our spoiler is the best value for money the cost you pay is the price it is to put it on the car.
All you need is an hex key, and a drill to fit it. We again put in the work to ensure you have everything to go. How simple typically orranje performance.

We are also happy to take very close un-doctored photos to show the finish and fitting, want more photos of any area we are happy to show you anything. Our spoilers do have a small flash line but its made from a split tool so what else do you expect? This is as per any plastic part if you look for it. We have no dodgy edges to hide on this latest G-wing

We are open and happy to show where we went wrong, we are happy to show the standard of our tooling, we have done the R&D to ensure that your spoiler doesn't have to spend a week at the body shop.

Body shops... Well believe me when I say there are good shops, and there are bad shops so be careful if you go down this route.

I hope you enjoyed the read and can see the journey we have taken to deliver this wing, our testing and desire to deliver a high end product for the lowest price out of the box and ready to fit.

Remember we at orranje performance are enthusiast we never set up to make a profit and all profit buys new ideas, bumpers and brings you what you want we all earn nothing from orranje, its all about the development and the mini. We intentionally brought you the items to help you get it for less.. We are part time and all have other jobs hence why our lead times can be longer, its not always easy to pop out but we will be holding stock of all items soon to help with this.

Very cool behind the scenes look at their operation. Interesting how their an "enthusiast group" with other jobs in the daytime. I bet their wives are wondering why they don't have money for groceries every week

I would definitely be interested. I've been eyeing them for a couple of months and they're my first choice. I'd get the gloss black also to match my roof.

lol yeah but it must be so much fun too. Would love to be involved with something like this. Rich seems like a real cool guy from the few emails we've exchanged.

Sounds good. I would only encourage more posting on this thread and just people stating they are interested to see if maybe we can get a large order sent over here. Even we were just able to save something on shipping.

Update

Spoke to Rich again. Like I said before these guys can't really give us a large discount because their process as you can see above. HOWEVER... he offered me a small Group Buy of 4. The price would be £240 each and £100 (£25/wing) for all of them shipped and insured. As you can see... the dilemma would be sending to only one address and then having to ship out to 3 other people.

So each person would pay right now about £265 shipped to USA. Approximately $405USD. Then let's assume at least another $35USD to ship to your individual address. Remember this is preliminary, I'd have to get a more precise estimate with boxing and all.

By the quick the estimate above... we are looking at about $440USD for the G-Wing by Orrange Performance. That's a pretty good price. The standard price is about $510USD. A savings of about $70. Its about 14% savings. This is just preliminary. We'd have to figure out all the logistics.

If anyone is interested please post on this thread.

Hello all, Rich from Orranje here

Thanks to Carhilt for starting this thread.

We could cater to a larger number than 4 G-wings if demand called for it, however we can fit a maximum of 4 wings in one box and as Carhilt rightly states that box would have to be delivered to one singular address. If more than one box worth was ordered, the multiple boxes could be sent to different addresses, so you guys could organise that between yourselves for a mutually convenient drop point?!

Dependent upon interest we could offer a discounted price too, so if anyone's interested put your name down and we'll get some prices worked out for you guys! We'd love to see some more G-wings in America!

And just to confirm, everything is 100% made in the UK locally to us in Birmingham :D It may not be the cheapest way of making things, but it enables us to keep a stricter level of quality adhered too :D

How do these attach to the car? Like the GP which needs the brackets bonded to the window?

Here is the fitting guide : http://orranje.co.uk/uploads/guides/...ting-Guide.pdf

But you need to drill two holes on each side of the bootlid

Thanks for the reply. Ive tried emailing them but haven't got a reply back from them. So I wasn't sure if they were still making them. Did they maybe get a different email? Im hoping they are just busy is all! All fingers crossed! If I don't hear from them my next move will be Fubrication I guess lol

Hey Rich! I got your reply! Its good to see you guys are still making this wing across the pond! I sent you a response back with a few minor questions but I was just curious if you guys are making the center blade in carbon fiber yet? I forgot to ask that in my email.. I will be placing my order very soon cheers Rich!
