2007 passenger seat occupancy mat changeout

Hi, the occupancy mat went bad in my sons 2007. I was wondering how hard it would be to change it out. I reupholstered the seats in 71 corvette from the frames to the foam to the vinyl. Just would like to know if it was hard to do? thanks

How important is it to you. You could probably jumper it out altogether.

A safety recall has been issued for the occupancy mat. However, from other posts on the forum, it seems that the recall might not have begun yet due to lack of parts.

Edit: Looking at your previous posts, I guess you are referring to a 2007 hardtop (R56). Unfortunately it isn't covered by the recall. The 2007 convertible (R52) is covered.

Your options are:
  1. Replace the sensor mat
  2. Use NCS Expert programming to disable the sensor mat (and always enable the airbag)
  3. Use an emulator like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emulator-Mini-Cooper-R55-R56-R57-R58-Seat-Occupancy-Mat-Sensor-Airbag-Bypass-/161161656100?vxp=mtr&hash=item2585fbb724

A simple jumper or resistor won't work. The sensor mat is a digital device that communicates with the airbag controller using digital signals.

I did the bypass but the seat belt light keeps coming on. I have to keep buckling the seat belt.

The mat sensor emulator I linked also includes a seat belt bypass, and you need to use them together. You might be able to find a separate seat belt bypass.

I purchased this emulator and it did not work why do you say you have to use the seat belt part with the emulator? I did not try that.

I was responding to 2001convertable's post where he said he said the seat belt light turns on. The emulator simulates an occupied seat. An occupied seat will trigger a seat belt warning if it isn't buckled. That's what the seat belt simulator is for.

If the overhead passenger airbag light is on, then I guess the emulator doesn't work in your car. If that light is off but you have an airbag warning on the dash, you have to reset it because the main airbag warning won't turn off by itself.

I would love to see your pictures of your reupholstered seats, you just might inspire someone.

BTW I believe that sensor recall mentioned above is for select Gen1 Minis only.
