Sirius Radio question

Hello everyone...So I got my 2008 Mini Cooper S, which I find it has a life time subscription of Sirius radio (on the Sticker price). Called Sirius radio to activate it since it's life time subscription that came from the manufacturer MINI, the lady took my information down and they were about to send me a signal and asked me to go the channel 184, then she came back on the line and said I don't qualify for this and they just deactivated the previous owner, was told I would have to buy new subscription and started selling me one. I advised her it's life time from MINI, all I needed to do is activate it, and they refused to do so and asked me to contact the Dealer. Anything I can do with a lifetime subscription from Mini with a 2nd owner? Anyone experienced something like that? Please advise...Thank you so much...Mark

You're probably out of luck, SiriusXM is the worse outfit I have ever dealt with. The audio quality is so poor you're probably better off without it (assuming you actually have to pay for it).

Suggest you call them back and them back and ask them to tell you why you do not qualify, and for the terms and conditions of the lifetime subscription.

I am not gonna let it go like that...I planning on raise some you know what before I give up...I do believe I should get it. I am just waiting for the car to get delivered so I can have it before calling. Thank you so much.

More than likely it was lifetime for the original owner and doesn't transfer with the sale of the car. It is still worth the price for more music, no commercials, and much better quality of sound. Wait and find a deal (which they have quite often), I only pay $5 a month.

The worst part is dealing with customer service outsourced to India...

As others have pointed out the sub belongs to the original owner and you become the "transfer".

https://listenercare.siriusxm.com/ap...ransferable%3F

On or after September 8, 2007: Lifetime subscriptions associated with home, portable or dock & play radios can be transferred a maximum of three times.* Lifetime subscriptions first associated with or transferred to radios installed in vehicles by automakers or dealers are NOT transferable unless the radio is stolen, accidentally damaged or defective.

I am currently on the Sirius Select (5 Month) for $20. I have to call the day before my plan expires to ask for the same deal or I get moved to Sirius Select (3 Month) $35. For the most part I only listen to 5 different stations unless I'm on the road with a passenger.

One may, or may not, appreciate Sirius XM content, but the quality of their sound SUCKS. Noticeably worse than FM radio.
It's adequate for talk radio, but completely flat and just awful for music.

I've just reprogrammed all my stored radio button short-cuts away from Sirius. They will not see my money after trial period runs out, unless sound quality improves measurably.

I truly think it's worlds above fm radio here in Nashville (and fm radio is 75% commercials). Its much more crisp and clear with better bass and I never listen to talk shows. I even thought this on my last car which was an Infiniti with the Bose option. Maybe it's because I have the Harmon and kardon sound system or just depends on where you are located maybe.

But one can say the subscription stays with the radio, not transferred to another radio. Thus a new owner is not a transferee, as it stays with the radio in the car.

According to SXM: Lifetime, means lifetime of the radio, not the person.

The way to improve the sound quality is by going to their website and refreshing your signal. It vastly improves the quality. I drive between 500-1100 miles a week and send the signal at least once a week. It goes from flat to HD sound within 5 minutes (the time it takes for them to send the signal).

Hope this helps...
Mike

Agreed on the commercials' over-saturation of FM radio, but that's a content issue for me. Which is distinct from the signal quality and music bit sampling employed by Sirius, which had gone downhill after the XM merger:

I am NE, with HK upgraded sound system in my bimmer.
My sound quality spectrum is roughly:
CD > HD FM radio > 128 Kb MP3 on USB stick > BT streamed XM data stream > XM satellite radio

Thanks for the links, that was interesting reading. Back in 2004 I had a Honda with an XM radio, audio quality was pretty good. I recently canceled my sirius because the audio quality was so poor. Sounded like the sound was coming thru a tunnel. On a somewhat related note, I started a thread about the fun and games when it comes to canceling the service..

Wow. I recently got a job working from home, so I called to cancel and it took about 2 minutes. They never even asked me why. Either their policy has changed or I got an apathetic service rep.

Thank you All for the responses and the feedback...I am going to try again calling and ask for deactivation. Another try wouldn't hurt, I like where it says the life time membership for the radio and not the car owner. I am gonna use that.

I bought my Clubman used last year. It came with lifetime subscription, but wasn't active when I got the car. I called and said they couldn't activate the lifetime subscription, but they gave me 3 months free. I had reception for the first day then nothing after that, I don't even have any sound on the preview channel now. When the freeview weekends come along I have nothing. Had the radio checked out but nothing unless they do some digging.

Sounds like it's worthless to have it from what I have been hearing from members.

Good morning members...So I went ahead and got the free trail since Mini USA gave me the tun-a-round about the life time subscription...first I want to say that I never had Sirius Radio so I do not know anything about it...I called Sirius and started a new trial to check it out...spent some time on the phone with them trying to get it activated but no luck...I am not getting anything...not sure if my Sirius radio not working or I have a bad connection...I did buy a new atenna from the dealer and installed it...is there a module to check I was asked by Sirius people? dont know where to start...now I have the service but have no service....Help anyone?

Turn your radio on and select Satellite. SiriusXM does this from time to time, is how I got sucked into them originally. As I posted earlier, the audio quality leaves a lot to be desired and getting it turned off can be nightmare..

I'll do you one better. Two months free.

Sound quality sounded good to me. Just not a lot of variety.
