Side Scuttle INSERT question - Do I need a new carrier?

I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S. I just ordered some replacement INSERTS on eBay (get a set for $25). Anyways, it is JUST the insert, no carrier.

Will I need a set of carriers or can I re-use the ones that are holding my "S" badge? I've searched around, but I cannot seem to get a straight answer.

I don't want to break any tabs on my carrier...I have yet to pull them off to check the back of my existing carrier.

Pop out the scuttle and you could easier answer yourself pretty quickly. Look on the backside of it. Also, you won't break any tabs, just push it forward and it'll pop right off.

Thanks. Is it easy to get the INSERT out of the carrier? I didn't want to break a tab on the insert. I've heard of inserts coming loose. I could always get a second set of carriers, but trying to save money

I've looked at multiple YouTube videos of people replacing the carrier+Insert, but none with JUST the insert.

If you are installing the aftersales checker, union jack or black jack inserts then yes a new carrier is required. Use some 3M tape to secure the insert to new carrier.

If just replacing the OEM S style scuttle, it is one piece.

Yes it is easy to get out of the carriers. Just use a flat head or something and it should be easy to pop out w/o breaking any tabs.

For clarification, I have these "S" currently on my car. From what you are saying, I DO need a new Carrier?

I am replacing the "S" Insert with number 6 from above BTW.

^If those are what you have, which is what I assumed you had in the first place, and you got a shiny new set of inserts, you don't need carriers. It'd be much easier for you to realize what you have when the new inserts come in because then you'll be able to see for yourself that you didn't need to ask us.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I didn't have the new inserts in hand yet and it's freezing here in Michigan, so I didn't feel like pulling them off yet without the new ones. I wanted to be sure that I did not need new carriers.

I was hoping someone would notice those are the ones I had in my little signature picture

It'll take you less than 10mins to change them out when you get them. If you needed new carries, it won't be too much of an eye sore in waiting for them

Thanks for the reply. The guy I bought the inserts for on eBay had carriers, but if I can save myself $25, I'd rather do that.

The one YouTube video from the MINI dealer did say that you can replace the Inserts when you want; however, they swapped an "S" version (like mine) with an entirely new carrier and insert.

I can manage Thanks again, saved me the time to look in the cold cold winter.

I'm surprised you haven't bothered to send a link of said insert and it'll allow all of us to give a resounding yes or no whether it can be swapped easily or not. THAT, would put to rest any further questioning.

If you are purchasing No. 6 or any others from that window, YES you will need the corresponding universal carrier part no. 51130414453. Sold as a pair.

Now I have two different answers. Awesome.

I'm replacing the silver "S" inserts that I have on my car. Those cannot be removed from the existing carrier?

They OEM scuttles come as a complete unit.

I suppose you could break them apart but the pieces you purchased were meant to be married to new carriers, and not black backing of the scuttle you are removing.....

Thanks, what does Black Backing imply? I suppose I can get the carriers to be safe.

If so, then you won't need new carrier

Also, I can't see the pic of your car when it's the size of my thumb, but you CAN separate and insert the new scuttle regardless of what others have said. I've done them to mine to clean them up and black it out, you won't have any issues popping it out and putting it back in contrary to what others have said.

I'll put this "debate" to rest. No more confusions. This took me 2 minutes to do.

Here's the underside. You'll see how it's clipped in place from the 3 "claws" and the part up front that keeps it in place. Get under there and just pull it out. Nothing breaks.

Done. End of discussion. Enjoy.

He purchased the aftersales cover not "designed" to fit into the black plastic back plate of the S scuttle.....reason why Mini sells a separate carrier .

What is the difference between the OEM carrier and the aftermarket? Seems odd that they would be different. Why would MINI want to maintain mutliple versions of essentially the same part.

I thought the carrier was intended for people who wanted to upgrade the JUSTA scuttles to something with an Insert.

I'll take mine off and check. I get them Saturday based on my tracking info.

Well, that same seller had a set of Carriers also. I put a Best Offer for $15 for a "NEW" take off set and he accepted it. So, I'll either have an extra set of carriers or just use the new ones. Fine by me.
