R56 Justa Coopers: When did you replace your clutch?
Justa Coopers: When did you replace your clutch?
My '08 had nearly 100k before I sold it - original clutch
My '13 has about 12k, nowhere near needing a clutch, but I'm trying to get an idea when others have been replacing theirs.
I believe we have the same clutch as the S, not 100% sure about that. The fact that we make zilch in power probably helps the life as well.

that's impressive - did the gen1 use the same clutch as the gen1 mcs?

Not sure. The first 4 years I drove it pretty hard with local club events, Phil Wicks Driving School, Auto-x, Dragon events twice a year, BMW Center stuff, etc. Now I don't do as many of those event because of work but it's still my DD..
There are too many variables involved for a valid answer.
How many times is the car started from a dead stop?
How often is the transmission shifted?
How aggressive is the driver with shifting?
How experienced is the driver with a clutch?
For example: My car has 87K and I’m on my original clutch. My service tech recently checked things out and indicated all is fine. I just did my first brake pad replacement.
BUT - the vast majority of my driving is long distance at freeway speeds. Very few shifts. Not much stop and go driving. I’ve been driving vehicles with clutches for 50 years. I pamper the clutch.
Another vehicle that sees a lot of stop and go driving would likely have faster clutch wear.
Someone who is an aggressive driver would likely have faster clutch wear. My technician told me a story of a brand new clutch that was destroyed in a single weekend by drag racing. There was an rather unhappy father looking at the results of teenage abuse.
I suspect (although I have no facts to prove it) that there is probably a correlation between brake replacement and clutch replacement. However, I have no idea what that replacement ratio would be between the two items.

I have a 2008 base Cooper with 145,000 miles. The clutch is slipping at highway speeds when I get on the throttle.
Doing some research now on replacing it. What is a fair price to have the clutch replaced?
