R56 Painting Brake Calipers
Painting Brake Calipers
Before I just jump right in, I was hoping I could get some feedback from anyone who has painted their brake calipers by themselves. I know you have to use high temp paint, but which is the best? Best weather conditions? Primer? Clear coat? Any tips on the steps and prep are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yeah brake dust is a PITA, seems like I'm cleaning my rims every other day. I've never heard of anyone using regular paint on brake calipers because of the heat caused by friction. Do you have any pics?
I'm broke as a joke
That's not bad for quality paint. Thanks for the tip! I'll lurk around on there to see if I can find a non-sketchy seller lol

plenty of options for 'special' paints to do the calipers ... but I WOULD use one. I used regular paint on my drums on the 79 and they discolored in about a year of easy driving. Went back with high temp paint.
a spray can of pretty good is $10

and as mentioned the GOOD stuff is about $40

like any painting task, the more time you spend on prep, the better the outcome . .
follow the instructions on the product . . . don't improvise
these product typically do not call for clear over the top .. and I don't know that I've ever SEEN a high temp clear
For less dust the answer is easy .. change the pads. I went OE to EBC green on my 7 and there was an improvement ... later went EBC RED and more improvement yet.

That looks awesome! How did you paint the disc hats? Did you remove them or do the same as you did with the calipers? Is there any danger of that effecting braking ability?
Same time as the calipers. Get the wheels off and you'll see what to paint on the discs, no need to remove them. None of the paint gets on the brake working surface. Just use a small stiff bristle brush and make sure the metal is CLEAN...the same as with the calipers.

I've heard mix opinions on duplicolor. Probably gonna go with g2 though seeing that everyone says its great. Thanks for the reply!
