R56 Door handle operation
Door handle operation
Can somebody explain the operation of the door handle? Mine driver side handle doesn't always open when pulled the first time.
I'm trying to find out if I have to order the whole handle or do I just need the black portion that's on the inside? Is it even possible to get them separately?

beacause if the doors are locked, the first pull on the handle will unlock the door and the second pull will actually open the door.
A little know issue with the R56...
Sometimes the door doesn't want to open... Miss Susan with her R56 has had to climb into hers from the passenger side a few times because the drivers side door handle would not open the door (mostly during a hot day after the car has been sitting in the parking lot all day with the sun shinning on the drivers side door. It has happened to her about ten times in the last two years).
I have checked the door handle and the lock I have not been able to replicate the issue in the driveway at the house. It has been noted in her service records and so far there has been no further information about it.
She has tried several options, unlocking the door with the emergency key, re-locking the door and unlocking it... all I can do is guess what is going on... I suspect the something inside is reacting to the heat build up and expanding and in doing so is jamming the mechanism, but as I said I have not been able to verify this by replicating the issue. I need to park her R56 and shine some work lights on the door and see if I can heat it up to get it to fail.
If I ever figure it out I'll post my fix.
Motor on!

That will get the heat up to par with the sun light
Or find one of those kids down the street who play with a magnifying glass and just have them hold it over the door, they love watching stuff heat up!
And on a serious note, let us know what you found out and which method you used for the heat.
