09 Hatch won't unlock

My 2009 Cooper S hatch will not unlock by double tapping the Unlock remote, however it will unlock and open by pushing the remote's Hatch Open button. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your supposed to hold it down on the remote, don't know why you need to double tap it.

The unlock button takes a single tap to unlock the driver door, a double tap to unlock all other doors. The double tap does not unlock the hatch. I have to use the Hatch Open button to unlock and open the hatch. Once I close it, the hatch remains locked.

It is not uncommon for the switch to fail. It requires replacement of the entire trim strip or continued use of the remote.

If the hatch open button works, sounds like lock switch is ok. If you have a second key fob, does it work correctly? Hitting the door open button twice on mine does release the hatch.

Both remotes work the same. Neither one will unlock the hatch unless I use the the Open Hatch button.

I fear hsautorosser is correct about needing to replace the entire trim strip. Thanks for your help.
Who sells the best priced trim?

Ok, How do you know the hatch isn't unlocked when you double tap the unlock button on the remote?

I know the hatch won't open because I pulled up on the hatch handle after double tapping the remote and the hatch won't open. It remained locked.

Are you pressing on the rubber-covered switch under the handle to unlatch the hatch as well as pulling up on it?

I had the same problem with my 2011 MCS (I bought it used). I thought wtf, why won't my hatch unlock with the rest of the doors using the fob. I just got used to using the fob to open the hatch figuring it was the norm. Then I went for a maintenance visit at the dealer and asked them about it. It turned out the handle switch was bad and had to be replaced. IF unlocked, just squeezing/depressing the rubber pad should properly pop the hatch.
