Air intake hose question

I have an 07 Mini Cooper s that I just purchased. This morning while checking over the engine and checking the oil I noticed a small crack in the intake hose that leads from the air filter to the turbo. The crack is in the part of the hose that connects to the turbo. Is this an issue that i need to replace immediately or is it something that can wait a week or two? opinions on replacement options would be helpful. I was thinking K&N, but I'm unsure at this point.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

You could limp it along for a couple weeks if you had to. Take the lead brick off your right foot and you should be ok. But I would replace it as soon as you can. Stock or aftermarket will work.I'm partial to the mostly closed box design. So K&N, DDM Works, JCW and AEM are my choices. I run AEM. I like the scoop idea. You will likely get similar performance from all of them so it really comes down to what you like the looks of the best. If you'd like to keep it OEM I'd say get the JCW, but I believe you still have to replace the intake hose thats cracked since it reuses that hose.

Just to eliminate the chance of sucking any dust or dirt in, you can remove the clamp (leave the hose in place), wrap several layers of electrical tape over the cracked area, then reinstall the clamp.

If you just want to stay factory, place a 'wanted' ad in the marketplace. I would think that plenty of people have the stock piece laying around that they are not using it.

Have fun,
Mike

Had the same issue. Limped it around with tape for about a week and all was fine. I replaced mine with the forge silicon intake tube. You can get it for about 150 on WMW. Cheaper solution if you can shell out for a full intake system

AEM intake is totally worth the money in my opinion. my advice to you is to get the part number and go to advancedautoparts.com and order it from there. why do i suggest this? Because if you enter the code P20 into the coupon area you will get 20% off and save yourself some cash. You could go through a vendor, but im sure going through advanced will be a little cheaper. Utilizing the hoodscoop is cool.

I literally just had my intake hose break off right behind the clamp :( I've managed to make a silicon splint for it to prevent it from taking in all kinds of garbage.

Alta has an Aluminum replacement inlet hose @ $199
http://autoplicity.com/products/5218...FckWMgodDzwAEg

and WMW has the JCW hard plastic inlet @ $136
http://www.waymotorworks.com/jcw-tur...5-r56-r57.html

But these are the only 2 replacements i've found, short of replacing the whole intake (many of which use the stock inlet tube).

Any further input would be appreciated with this.

I was thinking i would just get the Alta aluminum inlet hose...but then again, the AEM and NM intakes both include an inlet hose. Looking like the AEM is going to win. Not sure i'm fond of an open box (well, none at all) like NM has. Summer temps in Phoenix are over 115 pretty regularly...just...no.

An old home-made intake actually pulled the inlet off the turbo over time and stretched it, so tightening it only held for a few short drives/ and the problem i didnt notice for awhile that being said - it isnt the safest thing but unless your driving through dust storms or horrible weather for miles after miles i wouldnt be to concerned about sucking anything into the inlet. Its a risk, but depending on the enviroment its a small risk. Order a new one - i wouldnt mess with how nasty the electrical tape will be after that turbo warms up.

You do not want any of that rubber to be sucked into the turbo, if this were to happen your turbo is toast! I have heard of this happening to member last year, smoked his turbo and somehow had the warranty cover it.
