Need CEL Clarification, Please.

Greetings All,

I've been searching and reading loads of posts. This is a great community. Thank you all for your how-to's and advice. In the last month, I've replaced the turbo oil line and the thermostat housing. [2008 Clubman S] All the help provided here is greatly appreciated.

That being said, I still have a CEL and cooling fans come on as soon as the engine is started. As many others have experienced, the fans run for several minutes after the engine is off even in cold temperatures. I'm fairly sure that I've bled the cooling system properly. I assumed the CEL would clear after the new Tstat Housing. Is it possible there is a fuse at the root of this?

I know this topic is rather exhausted throughout this community, but I'm not finding the answer I need, yet.

Thanks in advance.

wrong place

I just realized that I posted this in the wrong directory. Could a moderator please move it to the "2008+ Clubman" thread?

The answer should be the same for R55 or R56. What is the CEL code? Did you clear the code with a reader and is it coming back or did it never clear to begin with?

After getting the CEL originally, I did some digging around; mostly here at NAM. I was losing coolant. I ordered the thermostat housing from ECS Tuning. Did the repair, but did not do anything to clear the fault, as I expected it would clear on its own after the repair. Should I take it to an auto parts store to have the fault cleared?

The auto parts store could not reset the CEL. They could only read it. The MINI dealership recommended allowing a 100 miles of driving or so to see if it would clear on its own. And, believe it or not, it did.

Now, I've got a leaking oil filter housing.

They couldn't or wouldn't? The auto parts store by me say that they can't but that I can and proceed to hand me the scanner.

That could have been what they meant. I didn't press the issue.

I took the MINI in for the recall yesterday. When I got back I noticed an oil patch in the garage where it sits. This morning, the dealer called to tell me the oil filter housing is leaking.

So, I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who replaces the turbo oil line and/or the thermostat housing (like I did, in two separate repairs in three weeks) replace the oil filter housing gaskets as well.
