R56 2012 MC oil loss?
And until Honda came along years ago getting 100k out of a car was really something special. So you are telling me the thought of adding a quart of oil to your car every third fill up should be normal ?
And you should be checking your oil every fill up, just to keep track of it. That's not just for MINIs, but for every brand of car.

now, i'm saying none of my cars ever consumed a drop unless there was something abnormal, especially for a newer car. that includes anything from a 400+whp evo, a ~300whp evo, an 08 mini, an 07 corolla with 166k miles, 94 impreza, 04 outback, '13 outback, '13 camry, '12 honda fit, '03 civic, a few more down the line.
lol one quart per 1000 miles.. the only car i wouldn't be worried for that kind of oil consumption is a car with a rotary engine. it may be industry standard but that doesn't mean something's not wrong. it's just "okay" in the sense that, add a quart every 1k miles and the car will continue to run just fine. a normal car, especially a fairly new one, should not consume any oil, period. unless by design, like an rx7 or rx8.
i think we're playing with semantics slightly here - CAN a car consume 1qt/1k miles (and be fine)? yea, sure. SHOULD it? no, not a newer car, especially one that doesn't necessarily have a history of doing so
Oil Loss
My 2000 BMW M5 burned about 1.5 Quarts every 1000 miles or so. I drove that baby hard.
The performance engines have a higher compression, which sucks in more oil and burns it off. Turbo spool rotates at upwards of 200,000 RPMs, oil necessary to cool it and lubricate it.. All depends on how you drive it.
I drive my MINI Wide-Open-Throttle very often, and I know I burn about a 0.75 of a quart every 1,000 miles.
When I was deployed, my wife drove it about 4,000 miles and upon my return, to my surprise, no oil needed to be added.
I am convinced it is how it is driven..

With all this oil talk I did to check the family cars and the old escort with 160,000 on the clock was down a half quart from the last oil change 4200 miles ago, the r53 none needed nor any for the wife's Lexus .
When I relocated to CA back in 78 I drove my 71 ford econoline with a 302 from CT loaded with everything I held dear at the time packed in in with a MX bike on the back bumper and towing a trailor with my classic mini which was also packed with my " valuables "
3600 miles of towing , 125,000 miles on the clock and I burned 1/2 quart.
Just sayin
I change the oil 1x per year in my envoy xl (6-8000 miles) and never have had to add even a half a quart. The ONLY car I've had to add oil to between changes was a jetta. Never on mustangs, jeeps, a talon, taurus, cavalier or a corolla. The MINI (2010 S) is always drinking oil. And I drove everyone of those other cars hard. Crawling in the jeep and 23psi daily on the talon awd.
"Most Manufacturers Say"?? Citation needed.
FYI. I'll bet that I've been driving cars longer than you have been alive. Burning a quart every 1000 miles is BAD! And I have a 1991 Mercury with a big 5.0 V8. It still doesn't use a quart of oil per 1000 miles.
And as far as the Mini goes, if it isn't burning out the tailpipe check the vacuum lines. Bet they are full of oil. Put that puppy on a lift and check out the underside.
I've seen it in the owner's manuals of several different Porsche models. All, however, were the old air-cooled ones.
I personally would be quite worried if my car were burning 1 qt/1000 miles. It may be "allowable", but I don't think of that as "normal"...
