Longest non use of your MINI

I have not even started my 2011R57 in about 7 weeks. It's in the garage on a battery tender and covered.

I was on my Maxi scooter a month ago today and mail truck ran a stop sign and T-boned me. Spent 19 days in the hospital and still can't walk due broken foot and crackes in pelvis. A separated shoulder, concussion and tons of road rash to boot.

Anyway what is the longest anyone has let their Mini sit without even starting it. Should I get someone to pull the cover off and run it for a few minutes or would that do more warm.

Thanks

Last year i had it off the road for about 5 months, started it a couple times but the last time it sat almost 2 months without starting. i did have the battery unhooked cause i had the DMW and CAS modules out for repair. It was fine.

Recently i have had it apart since the end of april, just threw it together a few days ago. bat was also disconnected cause the whole interior and turbo setup was out. threw it on the trickle charger a day before i ran it just cause i knew i would have to crank it to prime the new turbo. it started like a champ.

I don't think you will have any major issues if the battery is healthy. For a month or so i would just disconnect the terminal to be safe. Over 6 weeks or so a trickle charger may not be a bad idea

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad luck. Being a mail carrier sounds like you will at least be taken care of from insurance. As far as the car goes it should be just fine in the battery tender. The fuel will be fine for months, but fresh fuel as soon as you go to drive it. Tire will be flatspotted but that will go away after some miles of driving it again. Don't bother starting it up unless you are going to exercise the car and drive it around a bit. Just idling isn't going to do much.

Hope you get better soon and maybe we can see you down in Orlando for Mickey and MINI 9?

Keeping the battery on is a good idea as the potential keeps the frame negative (grounded) and can help prevent rust.

Thanks for the imput. I keep the fuel tank topped off to keep moisture in the fuel to a minimum. Fuel does get stale though. Maybe a few ounces of Stable could help. I have not been cleared to even walk yet so it will be awhile longer.
Yetti96 thank for kind words. I thought the USPS was self insured. After all the medical bills I hope the price of stamps don't increase.lol
I am giving up on 2 wheel vehicles after almost 50 years. Driving the Mini is same enjoyment anyway.

Longest time of me not driving was 6 months but it was getting started up about once a week and driven. This next time will be for 8 months and it will be in storage on jack stands. I will let you know when I get back.

A better option for long term fuel storage would be PRI-G.

Unplanned middle term storage (less than a year) should be OK...
The fact it has a battery tender, big plus!!
Burn off the fuel asap, change the oil when done, and all should be fine...
My thinking is just idleing would be worse...the engine temp would not get up Enough to boil off water that collects in the oil....so just wait till you can drive it....Then be gentle for a bit!!
Good luck...hope you feel better!! (And be happy you are not an uninsured mail contractor...).

Thanks I agree short idle run will not boil off the H2O but changing the oil is good insurance also. What is PRI-G ?
