Getting a 2007 S looked at by a mechanic tomorrow

Hi, theres a 2007 S with 57k miles I'm looking to buy. taking it to our bmw/euro car mechanic to get looked at. anything I should ask him to look into? should I have him check for carbon buildup? does it take long to check? what about checking the turbo/oil lines and timing chain?

he knows a lot, I just want to be safe. thanks.

Timing chain, hpfp, turbo cooling and oil lines. Don't think you can check carbon build up unless you pull off valve cover.

Checking for carbon would be cake once he's already doing the chain. I'm at 55k, had the chain replaced under warranty at 51500, and its going in next week for the rattle yet again. Mine was not recommended for the walnut blast.

about the 10 year/120k mile hpfp warranty. does that extend to the second owner automatically? I'm buying from hyundai dealer so I dont know the original owner. would I have to get the original owner to "transfer" the hpfp extended warranty to me?

what would cause that to happen again already? did you get a extended warranty when you bought the car? or is there a extended warranty for the timing chain?

I'm not sure, the noise was gone so they had to of done some work. Maybe something was forgotten or just bad luck. When I purchased the car I go a 2yr 36k mile warranty. Had no issues with then getting it covered or with markel mini getting the work done quickly. Great service from both but I guess I'll see how it goes this time around. Last time the chain was slacked and broke one of the plastic supports which caused the noise.

hm, I'm kinda wondering if I should still buy this car after knowing the common problems.

It's my first mini and I researched which is why I leaped for the $2900 warranty. I've had not a single other issue with the car and I love it. My driving I'd consider aggressive. Some guys don't have issues with the chain, I was told the dealers had a updated version that wouldn't have much issues, this was the first service on the car other than a tune up and oil. So it made 50k on the other chain.. So I'm quite curious myself why it's acting up only 5k ish miles later.

I hope it gets fixed. did you pay tax on your warranty? I bought the car today, I got a 5 year 60k mile warranty. it cost $2200 before tax, i found it strange theres tax thats why I'm asking about yours. I figured it was worth it, since a typical repair could be $1000 after all its a bmw. my mechanics checked over the car and were happy with it. the brake pads and continental extremecontact dws tires were all like new. I'm the second owner on the car and original owners receipt was still in the glove box. I'm trying to see what packages it has. its got xenon. on the top of the windshield behind the rear mirror its got a black box with what looks like are some sensors.

It'll get taken care of and yes I was taxed, it was $2900 after tax but its cuz I paid a little more for them to toss in some new tires. Congrats on the purchase! I don't know anyone who owns a mini that's unhappy, and everyone of my friends or family that hated or laughed at me for buying mine, has an entirely different view on it once they have driven/road in it with me.
