I had the rattle myself. i was fortunate to catch it early. when i took mine in they told me all i had to do was replace the tensioner. it cost me 120$ total parts and labor. the chain and guides were fine.

that's cheap, I had to OK a 180 dollar tear down just to evaluate mine.

yeah i had it done by dyansportllc in portland or. they're really great guys and did good work. i had the tensioner replaced a year ago and have yet to have the death rattle come back.

Hello everyone, I just picked up a used 2011 MCS yesterday with 45k~ miles. I was wondering how this "death rattle" sounds like and if '11s were affected by this chain tensioner issue. I got it from a dealer so I am hoping everything checked out but I don't want to take any chances and I would like to fully check on this known issue.
