R56 Justa water pump problem
Justa water pump problem
Last time I went to dealership regarding idle problem after they diagnosed my car, they found the water pump leaks. I just didn't think that it is big deal and I requested fill up the coolant (it was right below minimum) and then after 2 months passed, now I checked the coolant it's below minimum again and smells burning little bit as well from engine... there are nothing came on the indicator...if I leave it like that, engine is going to be messed up?
It's 07 justa hits almost 79k..unfortunately, it's out of warranty..

This might help, do it yourself. This is a turbo but should be straight foward

would replacement cost a lot?
Search shows people being quoted $750-850 to have the water pump replaced. Possibly dealer costs / good independent mechanic might be cheaper? Dunno, but water pump and coolant leaks are definitely a big deal. Replacement is spendy, but nowhere near the cost of a new engine.
Posted this in another post but it will show you the parts and what you need. Here is the Hepu version water pump. Also you will want to make sure you are not leaking under the thermostat, its on the driver side of the engine. It can pool some coolant on the top of the transmission.
Replace the pump and recommend to refill with MINI OEM coolant mixed with distilled water. You don't want you engine to leak coolant and then overheat.

My 2008 Justa with 75,000 miles had a water pump leak. Its recommended to have the timing belt and tensioner done at the same time as, mileage wise, its due and the car will last longer. The engine is apart anyways and this is how the timing belt and tensioner is accessed. It would be cheaper in the long run. Another recommendation though is to have the output solenoid replaced as the engine light (BMW "VANOS"/timing term) may come on. I had my pump/belt/and tensioner replaced with oem parts at my local shop for $1,195.00. I had the solenoid replaced for $180.00 at the dealer because at 75,000 miles my check engine light came on. I motored my 2008 with my 2012 to the dealer for its first scheduled maintenance, so, I had the solenoid replaced there becasue it was convenient. Good luck.

omg... early this morning I went to Mini cooper specialist (Mini World) in Sun valley,CA to get water pump fixed. It took about 3-4 hours and they checked temperature after they replaced water pump and that was okay. then I came back home and popped the hood and checked coolant level. it was below the minimum....wth... I called them and ask why this is happening. they told me to bring it in on monday....omg......what am i supposed to do!!! I can't drive now...
today I test drove my car and heard something odd noise from the hood on the passenser side. I heard vibration on the windshield when I accelerated and noise was on and off. I didn't have that prblem before I replace the water pump...
I went to service shop where I have water pump fixed and noticed that coolant was leaking on the surface and let them check it again. they jacked up the car and looked at where the coolant leak comes out from. they showed me that thermostat is leaking.....I was really mad that they didn't check the thermostat after they fixed water pump..I felt really suspicious......
Did you tell them "i have a leak, someplace said it might be the waterpump.." or did you say i need a new waterpump...if so they just did it as " customer requests"...no diagnosing.
it would NOT be common for the thermostat to leak and/or the waterpump at 80k miles...so i kinda doubt unneeded work was done...
sounds like you are kinda wound up....relax...it is just a car.
