I do and I was the pain in the *** that made Clint look into dry filters. If you don't know who Clint is, he IS DoS. The DoS CAI is a TRUE cold air intake (among many hot air intakes) and provides the best sounds of any after market intake. My advice... go DoS.

but what do I know? Mods??? Eh...

I just bought a used dos . I had to take if off cause I couldn't get the inlet tube to stay on the turbo. Tried ordering narrow t bolt clamp from dos but it wouldn't let me order it. i sent emails with no response as of yet . For the five min I had on it I can already tell I'm not going to like the high pitch whine it gives off at around 4 rpm

I bought the pre-cut firewall. I know people who have cut their own and have had no problems.

Mbroncosfan, I'm assuming you have a 2011+ MINI. If so, the reason it is coming off is because the one short piece of tubing that connects the intake to the OEM turbo inlet pipe is 1/4 inch too long. It was an issue since the 2011+ MINIs use a different inlet tube. Clint, aka: Mr. DoS fixed it after I brought it up. Oh, by-the-by, I have no high pitched whine.

thanks melangell that makes total sense now . The dealer has my car for a few days so I can't go try it out. As for the whine when I re install it ill record a clip to hear. It's pretty loud to me. Also when I got off the pedal I still herd the blow off slowly decrease and eventually stop with no throttle Does that sound normal melangell? I had the nm intake so this is a totally different beast lol

Topdog502 and Mbroncosfan422, you might want to look at this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...impressed.html

The DOS CAI is discussed extensively there.

I've had mine for the last 6 months on my 2011 MCS. I purchased both the K&N and the AFE dry filter. I DO get the whine above 4k rpm and I love it so much I keep the K&N on since it's noticeably louder than the dry filter. There are a plethora of wonderful sounds the DoS creates and the high pitched jet engine whine is one of them (although only under heavy acceleration). The DoS coupled with my Magnaflow exhaust and pop 'n burbles is music to my ears.

Some love it, others don't...to each their own.

The intake comes with a custom made K&N that fits the filter housing. I just checked the DoS site and in addition to CAI being out of order for the R56 MCS, I no longer see the option for the aFe dry filter combo. Maybe Melangell knows more since he worked closely with Clint on that option.

Besides the media material, the biggest difference between the aFe and the K&N is that the K&N is enclosed by a plastic backing plate whereas the aFe had it's own mounting flange and rubber inlet to the MAF.

DOS. Good intake, but HATE having to deal with anything in regards to the bulkhead. A true cold air intake? I have had it, and I still am skeptical in that claim since the area that sucks in air is still UNDER the hood, so sure it has it's own compartment where air comes in, but that isn't true "cold" air being fed in.

I like my AEM intake more and more now. And that's coming from someone whose gone from a DDM to DOS, to now AEM intake...

The pic above is not my MINI. It was representational only as it was the best I had. Sorry for any confusion. Here's mine:

I'm not sure about the dry filter since I haven't talked with Clint for awhile. I know that the first batch had issues. On the way to work today I listened for the whine and yes, around 4k rpm under hard acceleration it's there. I guess that I'm just used to it. I do like all of the noises it makes. As for being "under the hood", the area where the air is drawn from is not.

Calforhelp, as a side note, the NM tune has made me NEED a limited slip differential which will be installed on the 15th.

Just bought a used DoS CAI from a member on this site. It came with the K&N filter that needs to be oiled. Is that a bad thing? Should I consider ordering a Dry filter from DoS? Cost is high though (110$ with tax & shipping to me).

Wouldn't be too worried about it, you'll be fine.

I have it on my car for more than 2 years. I love it. Sounds great.
I bought the pre-drilled bulkhead.
I installed the dry filter too... about 3 months ago.

That pic on the DoS site is my car

I also have the pre-drilled bulkhead, but it is a little bit scratched on the left side. I hope this particular area does not show too much once installed

Do you see any difference in using the Dry filter?

The picture shows you still had the original intake tube, is that still the case? I've got an Alta tube on the way from another member here, so I'm waiting for this piece to arrive to put it all together on the car. I also got the noisemaker delete which I will install at the same time of course.

I have a high-def sound recorder so I intend to document the change as much as I can and post the results here

The sound is a bit different with the dry filter.

I still have the original intake tube. But I have a JCW and its a bit different than an S.

If its the metal intake tube... don't bother. You will never get it to fight right with the DoS intake. It was hard enough to get it to fit right with the OEM intake tube.
