Coolant Temperture

Greetings - Just got OBD II through a Garmin App, for starters, and it's the first time I've seen a temp reading. Awesome! What is considered the normal operating temp for the Gen 2 S? Thanks!

Coolant temp

I just installed a boost and coolant temp gauge. Seems to run around 220 degrees.

Thanks Rob, Mojo. Good, that is what I'm getting too. Mojomini, what gauges did you install? That may be my next project. Add oil pressure maybe?

I have the Scangauge II and it runs about 216 for me. I have seen it up at 220 before.

Thermostat opens electronically between 221-223 deg F. Yes, it runs hotter than your usual domestic that has 190 deg F thermostats.

My 2012 Justa seems to run up to 220F. Sometimes a few degrees cooler, but very rarely over.

My freeway operating temp is always 225 steady, 215ish around town. If I get on it uphill or in higher gears it'll jump to 227, sometimes as high as 231 and then back down. I heard somewhere that once it goes past 231 you're in trouble...not sure. This is just off the Scangauge II.

218-222 normally. 230 initial idle before the fan comes on and it drops to 220'ish.

No difference w/ or w/o IC.

226.4, unless I have the heater on, then it's about 217-221. Runs @that temperature in summer too.

How stable do you all find the temp to be? I find it fairly easy to drop my temp to less than 188 with a little spirited driving...

The temp drops under load, there's a second thermostat it seems. It can make more power cooler, its more economical hotter.

Agreed, but how low does it go when the car is 'pushed?' I can't seem to find any concensus on the matter... Shouldn't it hit a low temp and regulate there, and if so, what is that temp?

Under load (ex: full throttle), my temp drops to 185-190, then it will go back to 220 under low load.

fyi - I'm monitoring water-temp with a Scangague-II

Damn now I'm getting concerned about my temps. Once my car's heated up it pretty much stays at 225 or a couple degrees below. Under full throttle in higher gears it'll hit 227, then 229, sometimes 231, and then go back down. The difference in these temperatures compared to what people are posting is concerning me...anyone have any ideas?

If you see it hotter than you like, just turn on the AC to MAX. Watch the temp drop like a rock. The thermostat and water pump are controlled by the ECU.

An intercoler will have zero, zip, nada effect on coolant temp.

If it wasn't like 30 degrees in Michigan, I'd turn my A/C on for sure!

~220 in normal mode

~185 in sport mode... pushing the sport button drops temps within 30 seconds

No it doesn't, if it does, there is something wrong.

At temperature, I've been seeing one side or the other of 220ish. I figure I'm OK there based on what you guys are saying. Sport mode doesn't matter or affect my temp at all. What I don't like is my short commute especially that I don't get up to temperature. I get to work and I may still be sub 180. My OCC has been collecting alot of crap lately and with the cooler temps this can't be good for the long term. After work, I've been driving around, taking the looong way home just to warm it up.
