R56 Rear hub replacement procedure
Rear hub replacement procedure
Soon I will be changing the rear hub on my 2009 JCW, anyone have a procedure with torque specs they can share? Hints or tips also appreciated. Looks fairly simple. Thanks!
I can't help with torque specs but I can help with some things I'd do.
1 - Get an extra rotor bolt (the one that holds the rotor to the hub.) It may strip on the way out. This is a Torx bolt (This is also the only one I would use power tool for to break the bolt loose)
2 - Spray everything down good with WD-40 or some penetrating oil.
Jack up the car and support the rear on stands
Remove the tire
Remove all of the brake parts and suspend the caliper with a bungee.
Remove the rotor
Find a ratchet that fits and a 3" extension. I like a deep well socket. I would suggest NOT using power tools for this.
Remove the 4 bolts.
Wiggle or bang the old hub out (I have a rubber mallet that worked). Make sure you spray penetrating oil where the 2 steel parts meet in step 2 above.
I soaked my rusty bolts in cleaner to get the rust off of them before reassembling.
Use anti-seize during reassembly
I don't know torque specs (for you)
The last time I changed one I did the tear-down and reassembly in about 45 minutes. (the bolts were already cleaned from the time before that)

Thanks ThomB for the info. I changed the hub with no problems. Took about 90 minutes from jacking up the car to clean up. None of the bolts were really stuck went smooth. I needed a easy project for once.
