R56 New scuttles
New scuttles
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, but I wanted to share an image of my new side scuttles...installed them last night...a nice departure from the plain black ones...Cheers
Many thanks...I got them from http://mybeautifulmini.com/
I ordered them last Thursday and they got here yesterday...not bad for being shipped from the UK...have a K&N air filter on the way too...still breaking her in though...
Littlewing - thanks for the comment...I've wanted a BRG Mini for a long time now and finally have it...my dad had a 1962 Porsche 1600C in BRG so we're carrying on the tradition.

Oh, I have a long wish list over at My Beautiful Mini, but have hesitated to buy because I haven't researched them yet.
Good to know that they are giving you such great service!
They have a few things I haven't seen offered here in the US.
I love the Welsh dragon too.
I removed the "egg yolks" from my side scuttles and front lamps, but I like them on your car.
You wouldn't happen to be a Rattler from Tallahassee, would you?
Littlewing - Sorry, I am a rattler from San Antonio...graduated from St. Mary's...you're not a St. Mary's grad are you?
I had no idea there was a Welsh contingent here. Good to know.
I know this may be a bit off topic, but has anybody here replaced their gear lever ****? I have found a few on various sites but wanted to get a little info first.
Thanks and Cymru am byth

I have a new shift **** on it's way from Doug Whalen!
Very excited!

Those shift ***** are SICK! Excellent choice. Please post some pictures when you get it and whether it's worth the price.
I assume those things are machined from a solid piece of what, aluminum?

Stainless steel and I am sure it's worth the price.
Search "Whalen" on the site.
Did you see his gallery?

Doug has been super nice to work with and said he will walk me through the installation.
There's is at least one vendor with really nice wooden shift ***** too.
Like everything else Mini, you can customize forever!
Edited to add:
Check out #69 of the group of 110

sgrundw - Sorry it took me a bit to reply...I believe the postage was 8 pounds, so around 11 dollars American, with delivery in 3 to 5 working days, which is not bad at all. for 10 pounds they will deliver even faster.
Mini///M - Thanks of shopping that on...I will be ordering the clear lights later today.
lj - that gear **** is insane...with all due respect, I may need to copy that or at least use it as inspiration. You are the second person on this forum to tell me about the Whalen *****...how was installation?
Thanks and cheers to you all.

No worries on the design-borrowing, I did as much myself.
Doug had/has the Welsh dragon out there, I just combined it with the engraved ring from another one (also still there, it's "Mini Cooper" in classic script, with that ring also engraved). On an all-shiny steel **** (we have a brushed-stainless fridge, no thanks: too many finger smudges all the time!).
Install is regarded by some as a real PITA, but I didn't find it that bad, and of course I was prepared through reading some other installation tales.
There's at least one YouTube showing this (actually, installing one of those carbon fiber JCW *****). The high points are:
a. remove the standard ****. It's just a press fit on there, and is snug. Some describe the operation as "straddle, use both hands, pull with all your might until it pops off". I didn't need "all my might", but it took a good tug / steady pressure until it gave, and I did use both hands/arms.
On my '12 there was NOT any need to separate the shift boot from the console, it doesn't need to come off to just install the ****. Be careful to STOP yanking on the shift **** once it comes off the shaft, as it will still be attached to the boot and you don't want to rip the boot out of the console.
b. separate the **** from the boot. Getting the **** loose from the shaft is step one. Once off, it's still attached to the top of the shift boot. That's also a press fit. Find something slim & undamaging to wedge between the **** and the top of the shift boot to start to separate it (the "leather"/vinyl is wrapped over a plastic piece, and the **** has a plastic extension that press fits into it). I used a butter knife, gently, wedging it in then twisting it to create some separation. That gave me enough clearance to use one of my plastic dash panel pry tools to finish separating it (but a cloth-wrapped big ol screwdriver end would work too, I'm sure).
Took longer to write this just now than it will take to do the job, by far. Pop the **** off the shaft. Separate the **** from the boot. New Whalen **** goes on easily (has a quick-release mechanism in it, sorta like a reverse-lock-out sleeve), clicks into place. Done.

rattler07 -
I installed my Whalen shift **** today and it went very well.
It's definitely worth it!
Went out motoring afterwards and love the way it feels.
My computer's SD reader is broken and I can't download any pics now.
Will do so later.
How are you enjoying your new MINI?

To sum up my ownership experience thus far...I LOVE IT...I am finding excuses to drive anywhere and anytime just to rack up the 1200 or so break in miles. The fact that I have great dealership support is great too. I have not had this kind of backing from a car dealership since I had my Land Rover, and those guys treated me like gold...and I certainly didn't have this kind of online forum support when I had my Accord...unless I wanted to turn it into a hideous Fast and Furious clone of some kind...no thanks.
Speaking of, my dragons caused quite a stir at the dealership yesterday when I went to go pick up my plates...
I have already decided on picking up one of those Whalen *****. I just need to decide on a design. I really like the Welsh Dragon idea, but was also considering getting the Royal Air Force circular logo on top...maybe a color inlay of some kind. I am also looking at a DDM air intake, but that will be later down the road.
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the pictures.
Cheers
