Yes I am on NAM. I'm just a lurker.

Oscar is right at home next to Minixtc. I wish I could get the admins to let me change my name here to Darth Alex.

Well if I were to sell Oscar I'd keep the seats for office chairs!

Judas Priest this car is bad to the bone. It is wicked quick, might even be as fast as my C5, and just set up so perfectly. Images and descriptions fall short in conveying just how nice this car really is. Mark is a wizard and his attention to detail is off the chart.

Before riding around in these seats I might have said that no seat was worth this kind of money...but now, if I ordered a new Mini I would order it with these seats. They really are that comfortable and supportive.

godalex - congrat's on the car. Glad it is more than you expected. As many who have followed Oscar's metamorphosis have said, OC did a great job on it. The seats have a story unto themselves and that story convinced me to by a pair, leather so they are not a fancy, but still just as supportive. For those who must know, these seats are not the same seats that Mini is now offering as JCW Recaro seats in the States. The US seats have softer side bolstering and not as much support; this as reported in another thread. I am sure those seats add as much to the character to the car as everything else OC did and overall are the one thing that you will enjoy the most over the long run. Hope you find many years of enjoyment from your new ride and that you keep us filled in on His new adventures.

Where the hell are you getting them for that price? That’s ridiculous! You can get them from Schienmann’s for about 2800 bucks. (of course, I didn’t know that when I ordered mine...lol) PLUS VAT is less coming from them because they’re in Sweden or Denmark as opposed to the UK.

Scroll to the bottom of the thread , pulled some stuff and traded the Mini for Austin Martin Vantage, so he says
(got him down to $4500)

$3000 for the leather seats not alctrata somewhere in Europe. So mint Alctrata here , heated, fitted to USA models with brackets with no bag codes etc for $4500 is not too bad

You have to do a search, the site is a bit hard to search with but you can find alcantara and the price isn’t much different. Also, they’re all “fitted”. They come with brackets, air bags and heat.

Besides, how do you figure it’s not “too bad”? It’s 1500 more!!

The only mod that needs to be done is the passenger seat sensor has to be swapped. (30 minute job)

I think for 30 minutes, I’ll keep $1500...lol.

Hell, I paid 3800 for mine including shipping from England... still 700 bucks less for brand new seats.

I’m not knocking the guys seats, I just think 4500 is too much for used seats. (mint or not) Brand new in a box is less)

$3k for JCW seats is not bad. I might consider this down the road. Is it hard to swap in the airbags? And get them working in the US MINIs?

Mark would be the person to answer this question, but based on the photo of the bottom of the seat it looks like it is plug and play, except for the passenger side which needs the pressure sensor from the existing seat.

Seat comes with airbag installed:

EXACTLY!!!

That was the point I was making. The seats come with airbags and heat.... all you have to do is install the seat pressure sensor. You can take apart a JCW Recaro seat in less than 30 minutes (and put back together)

I know someone has them for sale stateside but I don't see any point in paying an extra 700-1000 extra because someone installed a seat pressure sensor. If anyone needs help or wants to ship me the bottom of the seat, I'll install it for free.

Mark

Now understand to Mark this is easy. For the the rest of us DIY'ers, doing the change over of the pressure sensor will take a bit longer than it will take him - maybe an hour or a little longer. Take your time as this is not a perfect fit between the stock seats and the JCW. As for the whole job, figure an afternoon on a nice Saturday. On a DIY scale of 1 to 10 (hardest) putting the Recaro seats into a US Mini is about a 4 - 5.

BTY - Mark, do you know if the pressure sensor is coded to the car or will it work in any Gen II (plug and play)?

I agree, you will spend a day installing the seats. The 30 minutes was referring to the time necc. to take the bottom of the JCW seat off, remove the upholstery, install the sensor and put the seat back together. Because there is a little bit of playing, I would set aside an afternoon to do so.

The pressure sensor should be coded to the car already IF you took if from you passenger seat. I was going to buy a new one and install it so I didn’t have to take apart my factory seats. Had I done so, I would have had to have the new sensor recoded.

Now, you most likely will have to have the lights cleared for the airbags since you disconnected them. (you may get around this if you disconnect the battery... I did not)

HTH’s,

Mark

EDIT: Somewhere in one of my posts, I made a write-up and took pics of the install for others to follow.

What a shame! I am finally about to make the move to Charlotte and I so wanted to meet Oscar. I just thought my MINI should meet his spoiler donor. Lol. Congrats on the new car Mark, I'm sure you'll love it. I learned to drive stick on a Boxter, wicked fun car... once I stopped stalling it.

I'll look out for your new ride around town!
