We had a thread going on here last month about the same car in another eBay auction.

I think I have one of the nicest JCWs period.

Click Flickr link for a few hundred pics showing the evolution of my performance and visual mods over the past 3 years.

you have a nice one, just needs a little more power and less wing imho. But still a nice car none the less.

I like yourself have spent hours researching parts and upgrades and have taken a more hardcore approach to my build as far as performance and a little(and I mean little) more stealth in appearance.

You still have the challenge graphics on the car?Too bad you went with the m7 wing instead of a challenge wing.

Between mark ,you and myself I do think our 3 jcw's are the nicest ones on nam and I am pretty sure the 3 of us are around the 50,000+ dollar mark in each build.

I went with the M7 wing because I could not get the challenge wing imported for less than $3000. I got it on sale last Xmas for just over 1,000 with shipping. I am tot really thrilled with the M7 wing but I am leaving it on for now. If I had to do it over, I would have left the stock spoiler on the car.

I definitely have more then $50k into this car. The sticker was $41,900. I have all options except Nav and PDC. I paid $38,000 and I know I have put way more then 10 grand into this thing.

I think its time that you posted some pics of your car.

Good to know. Only problem is that it comes in white and then I will have to paint it.

This was actually a BIG problem on another forum i'm on. scammers would lurk on the forum for picture/build threads and post ads on ebay and craigslist. Since the modifications done to the truck were readily available (especially in the build threads) it seemed legit. Their goal was to hopefully have someone wire them the money. The heavily modded guys started photoshopping watermark type stuff with their screen name in it to help keep it from happening.

A lot of sketchy aftermarket accessory companies do the same thing, but instead use the picture to advertise their product as being on said truck. Like ads for a 2inch lowering kit on a fully bagged and laid out truck. It was ridiculous sometimes

There's a lesson to be learned here me thinks. Sinking many thousands of dollars worth of mods into a very personal car project is always going to be a big zilch come resale time.
I've had four MINI's now and around $35Kish new is my personal limit. Spending what he did and now expecting to get most of it back is a pipe dream.

+1 On this. You will most of the time find that modified cars/trucks/vans/suvs/ to be worth LESS when it comes time to move on. Back in 2006 I was trying to get out of the EVO I had (Not the because of the car, the $700 monthly payment.) I was working at a FORD dealer, and a 2005 F150 came in on trade. It wasnt just a normal F150 though, it was a crew cab FX4 Lariet, with a 6" lift, 35" BF goodrich tires on 20" wheels, 7" monitors in the headrests, an in dash DVD up front with another 7" screen, the whole sterio system was upgraded, and it had the normal asthettic modifications. The truck was easily $35,000 new, then with I would say $10-15K in mods. Then it was traded in a year later for a whopping $17,000! I would be driving this truck now, but the dealer couldnt do it with the $16K neggitive equity on the EVO.

I know that if I where to sell my MINI, it would bring more money to just sell it as a racecar, still not get what I have invested, and eat the rest. But I'm NOT selling the MINI any time soon.

I totally agree. I did the things to my car for me. I have zero interest in selling it and would never expect to make back the money I spent on mods.

Hopefully my car will last long enough for me to give it to my son when he tuns 16.

That's why you keep all of your stock parts and return it to stock before you trade it in or sell it.

You'll still lose money, but not as much.

That's what I did with my R53.

Like you said it's a pipe dream if they think they will get most of it back.

Unless its a classic or an exotic, a car is a pit that you throw $$$$$$$$$$$$$ into. Now, with that said, if it gives you a grin every time you turn the key or push the starter button, well, toss away mateys ..................

I still really like that car..... too bad I can't come with the jack he wants.
If I get a newer car ,I'll be looking into doing the same thing as he has done. But any warrenty issues could be a problem

heres what he wants for the parts WOW $$$

1. Challenge Front Spoiler Lip (Not Available In USA, Imported From Germany,
plus it is only available to racing teams in Europe) $1,200.00

2. Alta Stage III (Access Port, Intercooler, Turbo Hot Pipe, Down Pipe, Full
Exhaust) $4,000.00

3. 18" Sparco Alloy Wheels With Yokohama S-Drive 225-30 ZR18 Tires. (If you are
interested in wheels, I can give you a set of brand new 18"x8" Anthracite Team
Dynamics wheels. I imported them from England but never put them on the car
since I decided to sell it. They look and quality wise are better than Sparco)
$1,200.00

4. JCW Alcantara Sports Seats (Not Available In USA, Imported From Germany)
$5,100.00

5. Driving Lamps $420.00 (Includes hardware, wiring, front grill)

6. Rear Fog Lamps (This is a mini option, can't take them off and for you to put
them on, you need a different bumper with the provision to put them on.)

7. JCW Carbon Fiber Spoiler $450.00

8. JCW Carbon Fiber Dashboard Kit $375.00

These prices do not include shipping. Let me know your thoughts.

(still I love that car so sendmethemoney! )

A very nice JCW indeed. I like to add mods too, but they tend to add up, don't they....

Does the little pirate hat on your antenna slow you down? It doesn't look very aerodynamic...
