The Sports exhaust system will give you a very sweet noise
Those ceramic brakes are excellent but for 7.5k its just too much for an everyday car. Also am glad you didnt tick the sport chrono, 1.7k for a useless clock.
Red is also so sexy especially with the black wheels

But Oscar has personality. Boxters just go fast.
Good luck in whatever you do. Oscar is a part of our family, and you have provided us with hours of entertainment watching him come back to life -- the little car that wouldn't die, "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can......" I'd buy him in a second.
Thanks Mark.

The chrono package is more than a lap timer (sport button, auto adjusting transmission mounts, etc, etc)
Having said that... I agree that 1700 bucks is too much for that... way too much.
The pic reflects the black wheels but I’m ordering the silver. I can get them powder coated for free and not pay an add’l 1200 bucks they want from the factory.
On a side note, I need your opinion on something. I opted for the manual trans because, well, it’s a sports car and as an old school person, sports cars should be manual.
However, what do you think of the PDK setup? If I’m driving around town (and yes, this will be my daily driver) I’m seriously thinking about an automatic.
Dumb?
I’m on my way to the porsche dealer to drive a PDK 911 and a stick 911 to make a comparison.
Thanks,
Mark
We have a 911 with a PDK, on the Boxter S it will set you back around 3k. I will not mention how fast or smooth the gear changes are because you'll find out in a bit (and the are FAST and SMOOTH).
Around town it is very practical and if you want to overtake someone, making a sudden change on the accelerator will automatically cause a downshift and your ready to go (the first few times I drove it I was making it downshift by accident
).
In very heavy traffic however it can be a bit jerky. Eg. you are at a stop, the car is automatically at 2nd, you start rolling a bit it gets to 3rd and you stop pushing the accelerator as you approach the car infront. Then you press the break, the car will go without warning and very unplesently to 2nd before you come at a complete stop. However you get used to it and it becomes unnoticeable.
If you have driven a VW with a double clutch, don't compare it with the Porsche's the Porsche one is a lot smoother. Also ask the dealer if the standard steering has the shifting pattles. (I do not really remember)
As you have saved 1700bucks from the wheels ask the dealer if the 911 has active suspension or thrust vectoring you may like one of those
Or if it gets hot where you live, for about 700 you can get seat ventilation which makes the leather not stick on you back
Even msfw may be useful (we dont have one in the cayman but we have one in the 911 and i dnt really miss it to be truthful)
I know that am sounding like I a Porsche dealer (which am not) but in contrast to MINIs, retrofitting something on a Porsche is either extremely expensive or "impossible"
When you get back please tell me your opinion on the pdk

I have some, i was at a redlight a few weeks ago when a guy pulled up next me with one and he was laughing at my mini. So i said lets go for it next redlight later i was there waiting for him to catch up to me......lol
I would take a MZ4 coupe in a heatrbeat; the S54 powertrains in those are simply to die for in terms of upgradable power.
And the platform is excellent for suspension tweaks and weekend racing.
Did an article on the MZ4 for EuroBerge along with a photoshoot of a pair of coupes:

Just left the dealership. I ordered a 2013 boxster s. (looks are superb compared to a 2012). I did drive a Carrera s with the auto and it was definitely snappy but the stick is so easy to drive, I actually didn't mind having to push the clutch in at a light.
I removed the "all leather" and changed it to partial. (I didn't want the top of the door panel to be leather). I did however add the vented seats.
On a side more, I had the opportunity to hear the sport exhaust with the electric cut outs. ... Holy crap does that car sound good with the open exhaust.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I just have to wait too August.

I think he meant a retractable hardtop because yes, if you put a hardtop on it, it would basically be the Cayman.
Mark
Yes and apparently you can shut it off by flipping a switch. My understanding it’s much like a hybrid. It will shut off at a light for instance but leave the ac, etc ,etc running. Not sure if I’m going to like that but like I said... it’s a flip of a switch if you don’t. They say it’s good for 10-12% savings in fuel.
Thanks John, I’ve wanted a Porsche for a while and even though this is a bottom end (you wouldn’t think so by price) Porsche, I think I’ll be pretty happy with it. The new Boxster is really a nice car. I think a lot of 911 guys will end up switching over.
Mark
Well, golly damn.
Nice configuration on the 13 Boxster.
Bring it up to MITM, you can lead a couple of our rides.
I know you are ready for a new toy, so good luck getting Oscar sold or the sale pending goes well.
I'm glad I got a chance to see him at MOTD.

JPMM - I'll sell you mine, leather though...
Mark, didn't think you would mind a slight thread hijack since your posts were my inspiration and help to do the install of my JCW seats.
I'm sure your next ride will be as much fun as Oscar; enjoy.

Not a problem... Oscar’s 99% sold. The new owner (a member here) will be picking him up next weekend.

Can your Boxter S still "KSSMY-S" with the DMV?
Ya know, I never thought of that... I'm going to transfer the plate.
Great idea... and here I've been thinking of new plates.
Thanks,
Mark
